The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

The joyful confection is coated in a sparkly gloss, bright enough to gleam from the darkest, most cynical corners.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

Weary of slasher movies, gore just for the sake of gore, and bored with whizzo CGI effects just for the sake of whizzo CGI effects, I wanted to settle back to a simple, straight forward Ghost Story. One with a solid story line which, more or less, was neatly tethered to some level of reality and played out by reasonably decent actors. In spite of rather low ratings and a couple of mindless reviews, I decided to watch this movie. I stumbled onto an excellent choice! The script is well conceived, logical and moves along smoothly without needless twists and turns. The story, although not altogether original, is captivating and the acting... well, this gem is blessed with exceptionally good acting - not forced, in your face, nor over the top. The actors render natural and consistent portrayals. The film is suspenseful with plenty of scary moments. The music score alone is sufficient to keep you on edge while inflicting huge goose bumps. The cinematography is excellent overall. Ahh, 'tis a wonderful thing to indulge in a well made spooky movie! A must see for serious spook fans.

I really did not expect much out of this film, as I found Paranormal Activity boring and contrived. I was pleasantly surprised. The acting was very good. I never found myself rolling my eyes at the acting. I really felt the tension and genuine reactions. I expected pretty typical horror genre devises, but I am happy to say that the writers left me guessing. When I would guess that one thing would happen it would be something completely different and I found myself jumping, pretty often. Enjoyed the ending. Upon watching the extras and discovering that this was done with so few people and resources, I was even more impressed. Definitely worth the watch.

I don't care if low-budget or not, this was the worst film I have ever seen. I am not a film maker but give me a camera and a few hundred dollars and I could put this film to shame. All I would have to do is buy some sheets and put some people under them as well as hire a couple of very over-the-top actors, then I would have a making for a hit over this garbage. I am sorry for being so negative but I need that part of my life back where I watched this landslide. There was no sympathy for the main characters which should be developed throughout the film in any horror/scary film. Actually I found it to be very comical as I watched them plod through their lines almost as if they were ready to bust out laughing at what they were doing. For aspiring film makers, watch this as a antidote of everything not to do in a film.

A handful of characters, an ordinary looking tract home, and a ghost in a sheet may not seem like extraordinary horror film fodder, but I found it wickedly, yell-out-loud scary. The creep factor starts almost immediately and builds to a ghost story climax the likes of which I haven't enjoyed since 1963's The Haunting with Julie Harris. When watching the credits roll, you become aware of just how small this production is. Two of the three producers also star in the film, and do a damned fine job of it. The other producer's brother (I assume) does a great job as the ghost, eerily reminiscent of Dickens' ominous Ghost of Christmas Past. In fact, the movie's sheeted ghost is a horror movie "monster" that deserves the iconic status which begs for at least two sequels. How An American Ghost Story only rates 4.2 stars while The Conjuring rates 7.6 seems an injustice that I can't wrap my mind around.
