A hapless talent manager named Danny Rose, by helping a client, gets dragged into a love triangle involving the mob. His story is told in flashback, an anecdote shared amongst a group of comedians over lunch at New York's Carnegie Deli. Rose's one-man talent agency represents countless incompetent entertainers, including a one-legged tap dancer, and one slightly talented one: washed-up lounge singer Lou Canova, whose career is on the rebound.

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

A bunch of old-time comedians eating at a deli recall the hopeless tireless talent manager of terrible acts, Danny Rose (Woody Allen). Lounge singer Lou Canova (Nick Apollo Forte) is on the comeback and needs Danny's help with a problem. Lou is married with kids and having an affair with Tina Vitale (Mia Farrow) who was gangster Johnny's former girlfriend. Danny pretends to be Tina's beard which raises the ire of the jealous gangster and his momma. It's a charming combination of characters and feel of a particular world. Woody Allen's Danny Rose is utterly hopeless and endearing. Nick Apollo Forte fits the over-the-hill lounge singer although I would love the role to be played by an actual actor. Mia Farrow is simply great. This is a particular movie with its particular charm. There are a lot of unknowns in the movie. That's also part of the charm but at times, I wish for more experienced actors.

Review: The beginning of of this movie was reasonably funny, when the guys around the table was chatting about Danny Rose and his weird clients, but it goes downhill when Allen comes into play. The movie is about Allen protecting his one important client, who is a singer/comedian who can only work properly if he has his mistress in his life, but when she finds out about his womanising, Allen tries his best to get them back together so he can go back to work. I didn't really find this movie that funny, but is was good to see that Mia Farrow can play a different type of role. Woody Allen is playing his usual million words per minute type of role but the film isn't based on troubled relationships like most of his other projects. Don't get me wrong, he does have to sort out his clients troubled relationship through most of the movie, but there are other aspects to the film which take over that aspect. Personally, I didn't find the film that interesting, but it's better than some Woody Allen movies that I have seen. Average!Round-Up: This movie wasn't badly written but I just couldn't get into the scenes with Allen and Farrow. The whole mafia concept could have come into play a bit more and I would have liked to see some more scenes with his weird clients, who made me laugh at the beginning of the film, but it's obvious that Allen just wanted to concentrate on his relationship with Farrow. As I hadn't heard anything about the movie before, I wasn't totally disappointed, but it's not the type of film that I would be watching again anytime soon.Budget: $8million Worldwide Gross: $10.6millionI recommend this movie to people who are into there Woody Allen movies about an entertainment agent who tries to sort out his one important clients love life so he can work properly. 3/10

Maybe not top 5 Woody Allen but around or near the top 10. Broadway Danny Rose is somewhat different for him, he cuts down a little on the verbal wit, there's little deep analysing and there is nothing here that can be deemed as self-indulgent(like some Woody Allen films have been criticised to be), yet it is still characteristic of Allen's writing style and the humour is still unmistakable. Broadway Danny Rose is terrifically shot in black and white, there's a harshness but also a real beauty to the photography, and the costumes and scenery are lovely too. The music is filled with Allen's most used music genre, jazz, and it's very soulful and catchy, while Allen directs tightly but never heavy-handedly. The dialogue, even if other Woody Allen films are more insightful, is still witty and has many hilarious lines that are quotable too, but most of the humour in Broadway Danny Rose lies in the plot and characterisation which are both done brilliantly. There are many funny scenes especially the shoot out involving helium- probably the funniest scene of the entire film- and there is a light-heartedness that gives the film a real sweetness and charm that never felt forced. Not to mention that the film has a really poignant ending, more so than any other Woody Allen film apart from perhaps The Purple Rose of Cairo. Allen has never had a character more likable or sympathetic, he brings eccentricity to his performance that really sparkles but he also gives an understated touch that allows you to relate to him. An unrecognisable Mia Farrow also gives one of her best performances in any of his films, very amusing and confident. Overall, funny, sweet, touching and accessible, even non-Woody Allen fans are likely to find some value to it. 10/10 Bethany Cox

Woody Allen plays Danny Rose a third rate Broadway talent agent whose star of the moment is Lou Canova an aging overweight former pop star who is making a comeback with a nostalgia craze.Things go wrong after Danny gets Lou a gig at the Waldorf Astoria and gets involved trying to get Lou's girlfriend Tina to show up.This is an amusing and an unusual movie...I started watching another Woody Allen film titled Another Woman but found it completely unwatchable and switched to this one which is far better. Long live Netflix streaming.Another Woman is so bad it made me wonder about the very caliber of Allen himself...how could he possibly have thought the script and story decent? Another Woman is a terribly serious dull morass of middle class relationship morality and chock full of female issues= a chick flick pseudo intellectual yuppie hell.Needless to say stay away from Another Woman but this film is decent entertainment.
