If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

There is definitely an excellent idea hidden in the background of the film. Unfortunately, it's difficult to find it.

This movie does nothing to credit Jane Austen's literary genius, regardless of whether its adaptation was meant to reflect a comedy more so than the classic romance. Perhaps most tedious of all was the complete lack of chemistry between the lead characters. Also ever present was a level of acting that made high school students look like Oscar contenders. A film like this either works or it doesn't, and this one only left me wishing I was watching Joe Wright's version of Pride & Prejudice (2005). While it attempts to follow in the footsteps of films like Clueless (1995) with its comedic take on Jane Austen's "Emma", it falls completely short of expectation.

I am LDS and found this movie to be offensive. THey seem to make villains out of and/or make look stupid the people who have real faith and attend church regularly. They made heroes out of the ones who rebelled against the teachings and didn't attend church regularly breaking the covenants they made at baptism and they glorified disobeying the commandments of the Lord making it seem fun to sin.Having faith in the commandments and teachings of the Lord is not something that should be taken lightly or mocked. It isn't easy and it is even harder when you are a young impressionable teen and people make fun of you for it. This movie just shows how teens give in to peer pressure and seems to glorify giving in as okay.

I have to say that I enjoyed this movie. Yes it was made by the Church of Latter Day Saints... at least you can trust that it is safe for children. :) Anyway, yes, the movie does not follow the Jane Austen novel word for word, but it does include quotes from the book at different points throughout the movie - I watched it with a friend who has never read the book, but when she saw the quotes on the screen, she said aloud "Well.. maybe I will give the novel a try after all." Just a thought to the die-hard Austen fans upset at the discrepancies. This remake of Pride and Prejudice is very light-hearted and easy to watch. I would recommend that one watches this when they want to watch a movie that will allow them to escape their world for a little over an hour. It reminds you not to judge someone so quickly, and that first impressions are not correct... a helpful lesson for the cynical world that we live in.

As a fan of Jane Austen, I found this movie interesting in an intellectual way. It's very clever in the way it has translated Austen's characters to modern-day Mormon society. The problem with the movie is that it is not at all emotionally engaging. The characters don't seem like real people. Rather they seem like caricatures. This is a cartoon more than a serious film.Still it is entertaining as far as it goes. I tend to be a completist as far as Jane Austen goes, so I will go pretty far out of my way to see any treatment inspired by her works.I think the filmmakers had the right idea. Jane Austen makes fun of her society, and this film makes fun of modern-day Mormon society. However, while Jane Austen succeeded in making her characters sympathetic and real, the filmmakers have failed in that respect. With these caveats in mind, I recommend the movie to all Jane Austen completists. Even if you don't care for the movie at all, I think you need to see it.
