The mediocre reviews for this movie really astonished me back in 2010 when it was released. "Gahoole" for me, was an amazing cinematic experience. 6 years later, after watching it again in high-def quality I felt compelled to add my praise for this absolute gem. Here are some of the high points:The story may seem unoriginal at first, and in terms of "good versus evil" it is. However, there are important themes underneath like prejudice and racism which gives the plot a more contemporary and important meaning. Although the setting is an almost exclusively owl inhabited world, these themes transcend surprisingly well into our human world. The voice acting is spot on, in fact one of the best in the genre, especially Joel Edgerton (Metal Beak) and Geoffrey Rush (Ezylryb). But what really stands out is the animation itself, both in terms of visual effects and the direction. Many scenes of the owls in flight are simply breathtaking. The owls and the world they inhabit are so detailed and diverse that they come alive on the screen. The only negative aspect in this movie was the music. While the orchestral themes are beautifully interwoven with the scenes, the choice to use modern teen popular music does not comply at all with the general mood and setting of the film. In summation, this is a movie that must be seen by all generations. Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole is not the best movie in general in this genre, but in terms of visual craftsmanship it is unparalleled.

This movie hit every spot that it was supposed to hit. And I'm not exaggerating ... I can't believe that Guardians of the galaxy is in top 250 IMDb and this movie is not. Toy Story, for god's sake, is in that top and a lot other movies that i would consider crap compared to this one are in there... Don't get me wrong i believe all of those movies deserve a good rating but 7 for this movie is stupid... it's like giving 7 to a really good brownie and 9 to an onion. It just doesn't make sense. Anyways see this movie because is one of the BEST family or otherwise INSPIRATIONAL movies EVER . This is my first review and it's not even a review it's a rant against stupidity (the rent is to damn high :)))

I'd heard that this movie is surprisingly dark. Well, it isn't that bad. Sure it's got some themes that are quite heavy for a kid's movie, but so do classic Disney animations (The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast). Legend of the Guardians is your basic fantasy adventure with a kind, young protagonist and his wacky companions. They must fight a villain who's assembling an army of bad guys and the protagonist's brother chooses The Dark Side. The thing is, all the characters are cute owls. They look gorgeous - you can see every feather stirring in the wind. All the visuals are pretty much breathtaking (for an animated film). There are some fight scenes but nothing really graphic happens. The owls wear funny pieces of armor and it's implied that they tear each other apart with their talons but the film is bloodless. In the end everybody learns a lesson. The story is based on a young adult fantasy novel. Personally I would've preferred an animation film like this based on Redwall.

I haven't read the books but it is definitely on my reading list. I highly enjoyed this movie and was surprised at how non-kid oriented it was. That isn't to say kids won't enjoy it at all, it just wasn't watered down the way most animated movies are nowadays so that the kids can follow along. The animation was breathtaking, the plot was a lot more detailed and intricate than I expected, and you felt like you were being taken on a journey into another world...which is exactly what movies should do. I loved the accents for the owls and their different personalities. My favorite animal happens to be owls so I was very excited to see this. All in all: kids will love it, adults will be entertained, and its just a good all around movie.
