it is the rare 'crazy' movie that actually has something to say.

The thing I enjoyed most about the film is the fact that it doesn't shy away from being a super-sized-cliche;

Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.

Attempting to transfer a dangerous criminal, a group of Interpol agents find their quarry interrupted by a viral outbreak in a small Serbian town turning the residents into bloodthirsty zombies and must outwit the creatures in order to carry out their mission.This here was quite the impressive and wholly enjoyable zombie effort. What really gives this one a lot of enjoyment is the mostly Action-film mentality this utilizes throughout here by basically making it so that there's almost a non-stop stream of attacks and encounters throughout this which is quite a bit of fun. With the opening chemical release coming in the early minutes of the film and basically forcing the fun escapes at the train-station, it turns into a rather fun series of encounters with the convoy coming under attack while out in the open roads as their truck-stop diner encounter where they first come under true attack by the creatures with the gutted zombies coming towards them with their inner organs falling out which is a highly impressive visual. Likewise, the majority of the film's fun action-packed encounters come from its two big set-ups as there's the assault on the abandoned police station with the other survivors there to help in taking out the creatures, assisting the barricades and generally making for an extra few bodies to pile up in terms of kills with the ravenous zombies breaking in and then taking on the group in a strong series of firefights that's highly enjoyable with all the bloodshed and wounds doled out in here. The other big scene is the attack at the end at the train-yard where the remaining group members try to get through the trap laid out for them by the hordes of zombies and fight off the resurrected creature in the midst of the rescue attempt which manages to be really fun with the great use of weaponry tactics provided that makes for a rather fun time in this to end it on a nice high note. With all the other encounters provided by the lone gunman who wanders throughout the city killing off the various creatures found in here, it makes for an even more thrilling time with this giving the film a little more pace and time to balance out their mission until they finally get to the creatures which gives this a lot to like from the action-packed encounters. Being filled with great-looking zombies that are suitably rotting and grotesque which makes them look all the better against the graphic, blood-splattered carnage, this film has a lot of positives that hold this up rather nicely. There's not a whole lot really wrong here, and the majority of that tends to come from one area in that the film's action scenes are so horribly overdone with the shaking-camera styled shooting and rapid-fire editing that it's nearly impossible to make anything out here. The action scenes here are so chaotic and messy that a lot of the fun tends to get washed away here as this one whips through a dizzying assortment of camera tricks trying to inject unneeded life into the proceedings when it would've been just as fine to keep the camera stationary and just let it play out as it does. Along with a few instances of being overly obvious of its budgetary constraints at times, its' all that really holds this one back.Rated R: Extreme Graphic Violence, Language and Nudity.

Fantastic retro zombie flick , if this had been made in the eighties it would stand amongst the greats of that period. Very grainy and seductive portrait of a zombie influx. Great retro acting set in Serbia , lots of bad critics on here , I think they have only seen walking dead and the like. This is from a diff era , the classics , where zombies move slowly and there is a steady deep interweaving plot which thickens with tension just like in the original zombie films. This film is nothing but pure retro class , amazing that there are film makers out there today willing to put themselves on the line to create a masterpiece for those of us who know what zombie visions really are . Had nightmares after this film for two days which tells you just how amazing this piece of Serbian film work is. Masterpiece.

Uh-oh! There's been a chemical spill in Serbia, and you know what the means, right? Zombies ahoy! This film doesn't really waste any time getting to the good stuff, which, in a zombie film, basically means it's not long before all our actors are running about shooting shambling corpses in the head and arguing with each other. I know what you're thinking. You're thinking "But wait, there's been about a million of these zombie films out lately, and I'm sick of them." Well, you'd be right, I'm pretty sick of them too, but this one has Ken Foree in it? Remember him? He's the guy who said "When hell is full, the dead will walk the Earth." He says something really similar here, but changed enough so that the film makers don't get sued by George Romero. Ken's a big shot cop on one last gig, helping a rookie cop shift some mysterious guy to some prison somewhere, but on the way they get caught up in all this zombie carry on. The prisoner knows something or other about the zombies, plus there's this other guy who lived in a nunnery who was born to destroy the zombies, so it begins to play out kind of like Assault on Precinct 13 at some point too. You've got to hedge your bets when making a generic zombie film! Throw in some annoying teens and an old guy, and you're all set to go!Look, if you buy this film, you're buying a film called Apocalypse of the Dead. It ain't high art. It ain't a 'game changer', as every movie critic in the world would say. It's an Eastern European zombie film with Ken Foree in it. It wasn't boring and had plenty of the red stuff. It entertained the wife, who very rarely even gets the motivation to sit down with me to watch these things, so that must say something right there.

This film contains some interesting ideas, including a warrior prophet who thinks humanity is being punished for... producing global warming.It contains some goofy moments, including a professor who decides to check the area has become poison-free. How? By removing a gas mask from his head.It contains some downright strange things happening, for example a zombie who bites one person, then runs.Unfortunately, that means very little. This movie drowns under formulaic plot points you will already be tired of if you've watched any of several (hundred?) zombie films released before. If the same film were released several times, under different titles, instead of multiple films like this getting released, it wouldn't make much difference.Perhaps that's why it was called "Apocalypse of the Dead" during the opening credits and ending credits called it "Zone of the Dead"
