The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.

a film so unique, intoxicating and bizarre that it not only demands another viewing, but is also forgivable as a satirical comedy where the jokes eventually take the back seat.

I think this is a new genre that they're all sort of working their way through it and haven't got all the kinks worked out yet but it's a genre that works for me.

It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

This will be as brief and as succinct as I can in telling you that this is a complete waste of time.Annoyingly this starts out OK, man driving along on a lonely country road, has car trouble and then encounters something other-worldly and is abducted. Investigative reporters from a small time paper/magazine are dispatched to question all those involved, including a local radar station, some teens, and the alleged abductee himself. Needless to say, no one ends up talking which piques the interest of the editor into believing that there's more to the story, so he sends them back out to keep digging. From there this movie takes a very awkward nosedive from a remotely interesting, yet albeit low budget alien abduction story complete with obligatory visits from the unseen "men- in-black", to a preachy, bible-thumping rap across the proverbial knuckles by trying to tell us that ALL close encounters are nothing more than satanic and/or demonic tricks designed to turn people away from God.So the story in a nutshell is, if you believe in aliens, abductions and all of the trappings that comes with it, you're on a one-way ticket to hell and there's naught you can do about it, so you may as well repent now you lustful, wicked, alien-loving sinners! I can accept that this was going to be low-budget and that the acting, dialogue, effects and overall story were going to be fairly run-of-the-mill and maybe unintentionally hilarious, but to then use it as a vehicle to spread a religious message, which is inaccurate anyway, is setting yourself up for a huge fail. Avoid this.

Not too bad up until the point the name Jesus is brought up. I never really read reviews or even Wikipedia links when I'm about to get a movie for the obvious reason I don't want to have any presumptions to start with and enjoy or hate the film for the film. However now...Well, this one really made me hate it. But at the same time I loved it...why? Because it showed Xtians for exactly what they are when trying to convince someone to come to their side. Fear mongering and judgmental as all hell. The cover, blurb and general artwork for this film is extremely misleading...something you'd think would bother the Xtian creators considering it's basically lying, but lying for Christ...so I guess it's OK then.I seriously thought this was going to be a good ol' UFO film, albeit it doesn't look like it had a ton of money thrown at it for effects, but sometimes you find a good one in the B-grade pile! In the end it was more like 80% Xtian "Embrace Christ or Go To Hell" or as one of the characters 'Darren' so eloquently put it "I can't change what the Bible says"..The religious dribble starts off fairly small within the first 30 or so minutes, but after that it hits it peak and doesn't give up. You have to give it to them from a Science-Fiction point of view, the "Devil" being responsible for everything could be right up there with Star Trek! This includes UFO's, Paranormal Activity, Wicca or basically any type of religious or spiritual belief that differs from Xtianity, even if it existed PRIOR to Xtianity....oh and other life forms in the Universe....Yup that's right, Humans are the only life form (intelligent or not wasn't really made clear) in the Universe! As for the actors, the acting wasn't terrible but it was clear that the creators had an idea to play the Xtians as torn yet hopeful people searching for God. While the heathens were arrogant, self-absorbed and bitter at the world. The latter being what I presumed to be the main character "Brad"(Josh Adamson). Ironically in the end, it's Darren and his Xtian cohorts that come off as the latter more-so than the heathens! If you came looking for a bit of light entertainment about UFO's, aliens and seeing where it went, your going to be bitterly disappointed. However, you do get Jesus rammed down your throat and threatened into believing in God and the Protestant doctrine of Rapture! Also to the creators, bravo on the last scene, where you try to fear monger Brad into believing and then trying to pass it off as "tough love".Personally I want my $2 back from the video store!

The only reason I gave this movie a 2 and not a 1 was because for some reason I felt compelled to finish it out! Basically, I wanted to see if there were going to be any aliens, any UFO's, anything at all suggested by the title of the movie, the cover of the movie and the beginning of the movie! I was very disappointed to see religion being thrown into the mix the way that it was. This could have been used to the movie's advantage, but I felt, instead, that the movie was trying to send subliminal messages to me! Finally, how big was this cast's wardrobe!? I became so distracted by the number of different, and extremely bright, shirts each character had on in every new scene that I began to wonder if this movie wasn't really supposed to be classified under "poor comedy".toe thumbs down!

I watched this movie after reading the derogatory, bible bashing comments. I cannot believe that anyone could be so shallow to make such bigoted comments on such a well made and original concept of a movie. Anyone with ANY imagination at all could look past what the comments refer to as "propaganda" and see a truly plausible explanation to the ongoing UFO phenomenon. As far as it being a "religious advertisement", it is ridiculous to even make the statement...EVERY movie "advertises something"...EVERY movie has "a message"...why should it not be acceptable here??? These people are just trying to help others to see something that many, many have never considered.I gave the movie a 7 only because of the lack of Christian compassion that was conveyed in the film. It should of been done differently, because the goodness of God, leads people to repentance, not severity.Even with that minor drawback, I still recommend this movie to anyone who has questions regarding UFOs and would like to broaden their understanding. It causes one to really think and question "what is what" in this world we live in!
