This is one of the few movies I've ever seen where the whole audience broke into spontaneous, loud applause a third of the way in.

The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

Sure, when you think about it, what Klaatu is saying is more or less what actually happened in 'Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy', so it's kind of like HHG is the sequel to DESS. The calm and humility displayed by Klaatu, and the depth of his knowledge and later understanding of humanity is something we should all take to heart. This movie is profound. Watch it!

Rightfully called one of the greatest Science Fiction films ever, and certainly the #1 to come out of the 50's, this is well acted, well directed and has a great story. Unlike the incredibly lame remake, which will not be mentioned again, this is watchable again and again. Featuring state of the art effects for it's time, and one of the great robots of SF cinema history, Klattu and Gort are, at least among science fiction fans, icons. Even Ringo Starr payed homage to this film using a scene from it as a cover on his album. Brilliantly directed by Robert Wise, who also did the Andromeda Strain, Klattu a visitor from an alien alliance has come here with a warning (one of the few things the garish posters got right). He is a soft spoken man, but Michael Rennie gives him a sense of gravitas. Patricia Neal is great as the heroine who basically saves humanity from it's own foolishness. Not an alien invasion film per se, it is a movie about a first contact and even today, is still watchable.

A space ship comes to earth and it's sole occupant has a warning.Stop the violence or the planet will be destroyed. An hour and a half later he leaves, telling the earthlings that they will be waiting for earth's answer to whether or not they will stop the violence. What?!?!?! Earth is supposed to contact you? How?At the beginning he had something that would have let the earthlings communicate with the rest of the universe but he pulled it out like it was a weapon and an army guy shot it.Was there a second one? Most of the movie is spent showing how little the alien knows about earth, while the rest is spent showing how much he does know about earth. He knows about the UN but doesn't know who Abraham Lincoln is, a lot of that type of stuff. The plot had great potential but falls flat by not having any substance or a real ending.

The movie is very relevant in the modern era. The human race is is killing each other and put a threat to its's own existence through war and deadly weapons. An alien comes to earth to warn us. They are have no problem to the destruction we make our-self. But, the are concerned about the peace of the universe out there. If the people on earth continue like this, and the biggest threat- nuclear weapon, the Alien's will be forced to demolish the earth itself.A very well made and interesting movie. For Those who have seen the Keanu Reeves-Scott Derrickson version, this will give you a relaxation. A must watch. Highly recommended.#KiduMovie
