Indigenous (2014)
A group of five American friends on the cusp of adulthood travel to Panama to relax and reconnect. They befriend a local woman in their hotel bar—and despite some ominous whispers—she goes against the specific instructions of her brother and brings the Americans on a daytrip into the pristine falls at the nearby jungle. What begins as an innocent outing to a picturesque waterfall quickly turns terrifying after she suddenly goes missing. As night closes in, the friends realize too late the truth behind the rumors—the legendary, blood-sucking Chupacabra is now stalking them.

Excellent but underrated film
Blending excellent reporting and strong storytelling, this is a disturbing film truly stranger than fiction
The movie really just wants to entertain people.
The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.
Greetings from Lithuania.I'm sucker for flicks like "Indigenous" (2014). I watch tons of them, and while this one doesn't contain anything fresh or original or very well made, it's still worth a look if you have nothing else to watch. First 30 min. were pretty good, but lack of any character development creates a problem later when didn't give a damn who will survive. Settings were pretty good. Monster itself looked pretty good too. And the whole social media spin later was kinda fresh.Overall, as you can see, "Indigenous" in a watchable flick, better then 4.4 rating suggests. It is maximum 6/10 (because i'm a fan of these flicks) - if you skip it, you won't loose anything, if you see it, you won't see anything special, but it is watchable.
Takes half the movie until anything horror-ish even start to happen and then it takes an additional 15 minutes until we actually get a look of the creatures that are suppose to be the main attraction of the movie. And although they look reasonably creepy, it just isn't enough to save the movie and for the more-part they aren't really anywhere to be seen, occasionally because they are a bit away but mostly because of shaky camera work and the fact that they seem to do most their work at night-time.The characters are also dull one-tracked party hardy boys and girls with little likability factor to them, which doesn't help.So yeah really not recommended, unless you are one of the few people who liked 'ANIMAL (2014)' cause that's similar to this. And that was also terrible.
Aahh, horror and all that it comes with it. Same lines, same plot, same surroundings, same reactions and last but not least, same characters. Still, a far better production than say, Animal, easily two steps down compared to The Descent, overall, an OK movie, for a night with the friends. While most of it was easily anticipated and had the same moves every horror has for the last 20 years, it managed to act OK, and keep you there, in front of the screen without leaving it too soon or skipping forward. Don't expect anything decent, little below it, but below indeed.Anyway monster horrors are my favorite, so for me it was nice seeing one more. But I wouldn't recommend it to everyone out there. Maybe try The Cave, or The Ruins instead. Those are more likely to impress.Cheers!
There are a lot of positives about this film; specifically the way its shot and written, especially in its initial tease of being a found footage film before abandoning that idea, while holding onto some aspects of modern social media to move the plot forward. This film is smart, but perhaps a little too smart for its own good as it ends up cramming in a lot of what it wants its audience to see and understand without much signposting, which can lead to some confusion and overall apathy towards the characters. For instance the film seems to want you to really care that one character owns a restaurant, but I am still not really sure why. It is reminiscent of DeadMary, another smartly written film with a great concept, but takes too long showing you characters to try to make you identify with them and care about what happens to them, whilst somehow not managing to achieve this aim. Instead what could have been laid out in a couple of short and simple scenes in the first five minutes takes around half an hour and by then you have given up actually trying to remember who these people are and what their relationships are to each other.Overall though this is an enjoyable, if slow starting, monster flick that attempts to play with its audience, to at least some success, and is definitely worth a watch for any fan of modern horror.
