This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

The love story between the local Mormon boy and the pastor's daughter is not something upon which I can comment; however, virtually all the other facts surrounding this sad episode as set forth in the film are accurate. Here in Utah, there remains a grave sense of unease over just how much (if any) participation by authorities in Salt Lake City impacted the decisions made with respect to Mountain Meadows. There certainly is circumstantial evidence that implicates the highest levels of the church. Moreover, and what makes this event so hard to put to rest, since the highest levels of the Mormon Church have never admitted to any involvement in the massacre, they cannot really apologize for the outcome. The incident remains a never ending stain on the history of Utah, and it is not likely that the truth (in re: church officials in SLC and their involvement) will ever be known or admitted.

Lol those of you that think that the Mormons are the only ones giving this movie bad reviews are sadly wrong.....while many parts of the movie are very accurate and very entertaining there are many parts of the movie that are rubbish and show that the producers were not neutral one bit. And how pathetic is it that the producers had to throw in an epic and very improbable love story to further shove manufactured emotions down the viewers throats. Watch the movie for its entertainment value and for Voights performance but do your own research on the validity of the movies claims......Especially those claims that Brigham Young ordered it.

The breakdown of ratings for this movie is revealing. 20% hate it. 20% love it. Most others rate it as pretty good. It is pretty good. Well acted and well-paced, beautiful scenery. I thought the love story was touching as well as the relationship between the two Mormon brothers. John Voight was Amazing! It's got some pretty brutal scenes. This is NOT a movie for young children. As far as anti-Mormon bias... I don't think there is any more anti-Mormon bias in this movie than there was anti-German bias in "Schindler's List". The movie doesn't purport to be a documentary. So it's not like an Oliver Stone or Michael Moore production. In summary, I think it's a thought provoking movie that will make people actually want to do a bit of research on the true events of Mountain Meadows.

Badly made story of the Mormon slaughter of some homesteaders on September 11 1857.Dull interpersonal drama grates against the political story of the massacre. Its the politics of the story that upset some members of the Church of Latter Day Saints which didn't like some of the ads that drew parallels to the events of the same day in 2001. Fortunately for them the film isn't good enough that they really need to worry about the film changing the way most people feel about the church. The film simply isn't good enough to be much more than a not very good TV movie. Is this a lifetime movie for TV or a low rent documentary recreation of the events? I don't care since its uninteresting- especially when its shaded to have parallels to September 11, 2001
