There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.

Everyone hates this movie, and i must ask why? i mean, its dull compare to most mel brooks films, but, thats only compared to most. also, there's some really funny moments in this. one of them is in the opening, where peter macnicol says he's looking for dracula, with something with he's schedule, but he pronounces it dumbly, and everyone questions dracula, but one guy is like "SHedd-jew-all?" that was hillarious! there are also some pretty great performances from Harvey Korman, Peter Macnicol, Steven Weber and Leslie Nielsen (all though i find it wierd that an actor known for spoofs only did one movie with the king of spoofs). also, the scene where dracula is trying to get Mina but Essie gets in the way. i also like the jokes with his shadows. people may be thinking "this isn't real mel brooks!" well, he had 100% involvment, also, for the record, it isn't the first time he did a funny version of a film, he did the same with Robin Hood; Men in Tights and Young Frankenstein. however, it is no where near the best, not every joke works and its boring at times, but other than that, i would recomend it.

Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995) * 1/2 (out of 4)Van Helsing (Mel Brooks) must go up against Count Dracula (Leslie Nielsen) in this spoof of every Dracula film ever made.Mel Brooks had hit a grand slam years earlier with YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, which was his and Gene Wilder's homage to the old Universal FRANKENSTEIN pictures. It seems like it would be a good idea to do the same thing to the DRACULA pictures but sadly the results are the worst of the filmmaker's career. DRACULA: DEAD AND LOVING IT took a beating from critics and it crashed and burned at the box office and both of those things might be why Brooks walked away from making movies. It's really too bad that this film turned out so bad but there's just not much here. A lot of the dialogue is from the 1931 DRACULA with Bela Lugosi and when you think about it not much is done with it here. The dialogue is said in silly ways but did Brooks really think people would find that funny? The entire film is just a copy of other Dracula movies but we get one quick joke but that joke often fails. I've said this before but it's clear Brooks didn't adjust with the times because this type of comedy just wasn't acceptable anymore. The film got a pretty good cast for it with Nielsen making a good choice to play Dracula but the screenplay basically gives him nothing to do. He never gets to sink his teeth into the role or his own comic greatness. The film does have a couple decent laughs including the spider web sequence at the start as well as the stake through the heart scene where blood goes gushing.

Mel Brooks has done much better parodies in the past (SPACEBALLS is still a cult favourite for me) but Dracula: DEAD AND LOVING IT isn't too bad as they go. It's a broad spoof of BRAM STOKER'S Dracula with the ubiquitous Leslie Nielsen playing an accident-prone vampire who travels to England to prey on various unsuspecting folk.As you'd expect, the premise is played for laughs, most of them of the dumb or slapstick variety. Half the fun comes from seeing which of the American stars does the worst British accent. Nielsen is good value as always as the Count but the material is hardly up there with the wild and frenetic nature of the AIRPLANE films or indeed his NAKED GUN trilogy. The worst thing about this spoof is how many of the scenes are actually played straight when they could have been much funnier. Certain sequences, like those featuring Nielsen or the bug-eating dinner, are really funny, but many others are too serious. I was actually thinking up jokes that I would have put in as I watched. A good effort then, just not the best, a little more time on the script would have fixed that...

Mel Brooks, a 85-year old American director and producer genius. He has made many a good movie. He is the king of spoofs. I could write many pages just about how great he is, but I'm not going to, for your sake. This movie was a delight to watch in the time of all hallows eve. Leslie Nielsen always makes me laugh, whether he has a naked gun, is on an airplane, is the president of the United States of America or something else. He is a treasure. He is just plain awesome. He is gold! Peter MacNicol, Steven Weber and Amy Yasbeck are pretty good too. They sure do a more than decent jobs in this movie. To finish this I will just say this was a movie well worth watching, I recommend it, it is a good movie to watch especially on Halloween.I give it 7.5 stars out of a possible perfect 10.Arrividerci! Bon Soir! Buenos Noches! Good Night and sleep tight ;-) Shevy
