This movie is just a fun watch. It's not trying to shock you every 2 minutes and it isn't full of profanity. This movie doesn't get the credit for being as entertaining as it is. Great watch and funny, uplifting and basically enjoyable.

Chiwetel carries this film with the grace and presence of an all star. My goodness, this guy is brilliant as a drag queen. Although I've watched him in many films, he never stood out to me as a great actor, mainly due to my own dimwittedness. He's an amazing character actor and the subtleties, the persona and the over the moment were performed to perfection. This is a film that uses a standard formula, lets get that straight. Business is poor, an unlikely hero comes into the picture, takes up the challenge, loses what he's holding onto, grows out of his own skin and brings the business back to it's feet. We've seen a hundred or more films like this. But why should using a standard formula be a cause for disliking a film? It shouldn't. Its a formula and the question should lie in how it was executed. Well casted, well scripted, well directed and well edited. This film has my vote.

"Kinky Boots" is a fun feel good movie with a bit of a twist. The acting is solid to very solid, with characters who have depth and credibility. And the story is a true story, so what is more to ask?*** WARNING: SPOILERS ***I really enjoyed this (true) story of the heir to a once prestigious shoe factory, who doesn't feel he connects with the business (although he grew with it and knows it inside out), and then finds out that business is in deep trouble. And then instead of walking away and selling the walls at a good price, he decides, because of the memory of his father and grandfather, but more importantly because of all the workers who need a job, that he will do his best to save the business. But how?By chance he ends up attempting to protect a drag queen from attackers on the street, gets beaten up, comes to his senses backstage from the show, and later sees a broken heel on one of the boots - and has the idea to make boots for drag queens! He completely fails at first, but then thanks to the help of the lead drag queen Lola. And then things move on, and we're giving a nice but not at all boring lesson of "money isn't everything", and about respecting differences, all differences. And then there's a happy end, of course.

I have read all the comments on this film on this site, and I am proud to be British. Thanks to all posters who have made positive comments about a film made on a shoe-string budget (boot budget?) The few people who have left negative comments, I fear have missed the point. This is NOT a GAY movie! It was NOT based on a true story .... it was inspired by a true story! The owner of the original company appears in a cameo role in the film and was a consultant on the film. Some say it is boring and slow... well, just because the entire cast are not murdered by a mad gun does not make it a boring film! And as for the poster who says the musical numbers are slow and dull... you failed to state what planet you are living on! It shouldnot be compared with other Britflicks. It stands on its own. I totally agree with one poster who says Hollywood films now have body counts ... Do we really want films of numerous people being senselessly slaughtered? NO we don't! This is a heart-warming story with many under-lying themes, perhaps too under-lying for some! Both Joel and Chiwetel deserved farmore credit from the film industry for their performances. I strongly recommend this film to ALL! The film works in all languages, be it Polish, Malaysian, Spanish, Italian.......
