The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

For fans of Robin Williams' comedic style, there is one formula that never seems to work with him at the cinema: you can't formula-ize his comedy. You either tell him to "do his thing" and let the cameras roll, or you make him cut the comedy altogether and be serious (see: Awakenings), which can also be very effective. However, "RV" tries to have the best of both worlds and fails miserably. For a basic plot summary, "RV" sees Bob Munro (Williams) takes his wife (Cheryl Hines), son (Josh Hutcherson), and daughter (Jo-Jo Levesque) on an RV vacation to try and rekindle the family bond. Along the way, they run into the Gornicke family (led by Jeff Daniels) and get caught up in all sorts of crazy shenanigans. There could be multiple ways to analyze this movie, but what it really all boils down to is that the jokes are just not very funny. The children are such caricatures that no real emotional is possible, while Robin Williams just seems to be trying too hard throughout. Really, the only funny scenes in this one revolve around Mr. Daniels, who truly does steal whatever is left of this show. That, in truth, is really all there is to say about "RV". If you're going to make a comedy, it has to be funny (or at least have a target audience). This one does neither and thus ends up being both stupid and shallow, with the germ of emotion at the core of the script never really drawing us into the characters. This one can easily be skipped unless watching with children (about the only demographic it will grab hold of at all).

It's a very rare occurrence for me to switch off a film before it's finished. Otherwise I would feel as if I couldn't give it a proper critique, like I can't judge a film based on the first act. But after 45 minutes and seven or eight humourless scenes about toilets, I had to call it a day and switch over to Mrs Doubtfire. You know, what's saddest of all about this film is Robin Williams. He seemed to care less about the film than I did. He's forced into reading abysmally unfunny lines about feces and GPS systems. With Robin, all you really needed to do is place him in front of a camera, call action, and he did the rest. This garbage just doesn't give him the opportunity to display his comic genius.

Due to the passing of Robin into the next world, his films are playing plentifully this week. I had never even heard of this one. So glad I got to see it today.I was in the process of googling/saving "natural remedies for depression" (since I'm long-term out of my meds & unable to pay my psychiatrist right now) when this came on. Long story short, my depression stopped 10 minutes into the film. How ironic, right? All I can say is, the negative user reviews I read were written by people I surmised I would not be enchanted by in their presence. I enjoyed the reviews that said "Don't listen to those people. Be sure to catch this film because it is a very fun ride."Kudos to Robin Williams, Kristin Chenoweth, Jeff Daniels, Josh Hutcherson, Cheryl Hines, and Joanna Levesque. So glad they participated in this project because each of their contributions added so much to my experience, enjoyment and laughter.Read the reviews. If you resonate with the negative reviews, don't bother to spend your time with this one. But if you are a fun-loving, generous person, you will get off on spending time with these characters. And if you're depressed, it's worth a try...laughter is still the best medicine.

Bob Munro (Robin Williams) is threatened by younger competition at work. His boss (Will Arnett) tells him to cancel his Hawaiian family vacation, and join a presentation to a possible takeover partner in Colorado. Bob decides to lie to his family (Cheryl Hines, JoJo Levesque, Josh Hutcherson) and rent an RV to drive to Colorado. They are not likable people. Cheryl Hines isn't kidding when she says, "Try to remember. We're not friendly." The husband is pathetic, the wife is high maintenance, the daughter is bitchy, and the son is stupid. This is not the Griswold family. I like the Griswolds, and most importantly, they love each other even when they fight. The odd thing is the other 'annoying' family (Jeff Daniels, Kristin Chenoweth) that they run into is actually super nice and lots of fun. I rather hang out with them than this bickering family. The saving grace is that they find their love for each other in the end.As a comedy, it's a failure. None of it was funny. Once in awhile, they hit upon a cute moment. The poop shower scene wasn't gross enough to be shocking, and not funny at all. I didn't have a good laugh in the entire movie.
