Surprisingly touching and fun, most can not get passed the down-graded animation, but it was created by the animators for TV cartoons in Japan. The story itself is sweet and engaging and I love how the original cast returns to their roles. True this film can not compare to the music of the original, yet I am glad to see this film created, because Quasimodo deserves love and they created a worthy character in Madeline. If the film had been created by the Disney animation studio I bet people would have a much better opinion of it. You should see it, it is a cute and bouncy tale. I don't much care for direct to video animated movies, but this one won me over

The Walt Disney Animation Japanese team takes again (so it seems but I haven't seen Part I) the main characters of the famous dramatic novel by Victor Hugo of the same title and adds some other characters to it namely a circus magician who is also a big thief and also a beauty named Madelleine who is under the domination of Sarousch the magician who owns the circus and practically enslaved by him. Madelleine and Quasimodo, the hunchback start then a romance which is another but much poorer version of the old story of the Beauty and the Beast passing us the message that ugly can be beautiful. The story is far from brilliant and lacks invention and imagination. What saves the movie of being a disaster is the technical part I mean the animation which is done with the usual mastery by the Japanese team but even in that aspect I have seen better. Most surely this is not one of the best movies made at Walt Disney studios.

Yeah it's as bad as it sounds. In fact it's worse. I think Walt is probably turning in his grave every time one of these things are made. This thing is just a pile of trash plain and simple. Everything that was great in the original got gang raped by the greedy sh*ts at Disney who make these sequels. The beautiful animation has been replaced by animation that looks like it is from the 80's. The characters now lack personality also. Then there is the unforgivable fact that they sugarcoat the hell out of this movie. No more religious taboos, sexual cravings, death, violence, or darkness. Now everything is about that thing love. Well Disney I'm here to say what works in most of your movies doesn't work in others. So you can take your love and shove where the sun don't shine. Colors used in this movie never get very dark. Its all bright, and happy colors which it shouldn't be. Then there is the absolute joke of villain. I mean really are we supposed to take this self-obsessed pansy as a replacement for Frollo. Let's see on one side we have stealing a bell, and on the other we have killing hundreds of people. Yeah I think we all know which is more badass. There is also no form of tension in this movie. Let's count what can go wrong in the events of both these movies.1. Esmerlda could die Quasimodo could die Hundreds of people could dieParis could be burnt to the ground Frollo could continue to exterminate Gypsys2. A bell could be stolen A heart could be brokenSee the difference. Also the voice actors really didn't push great performances here. They don't all really bring charisma and charm to these characters this time around. The animation I could go on for days about. How do you go from a film that still looks great by today's standards to something that doesn't even manage to surpass "The Little Mermaid" in animation despite being made over a decade later. I mean wow did they mess up with the animation. Overall this movie insults anybody who enjoyed the original. I hate this movie.0 stars out of 4

Oh. My. Gosh. Words can't explain what a monstrosity this sequel is. Before I even start, let me just say that I bought a "used" copy of this movie on VHS a month after the original release date at Blockbuster for a measly $5. I put "used" in quotation marks because this copy had obviously never even been touched. It is obvious who the enemy is at first sight because of his slicked-back black hair and evil eyes. The whole deal with Esmeralda and Phoebus having a kid -- wha...?? Quasimodo's new girlfriend is ugly and annoying. The new songs are intolerable; after hearing them, I was almost tempted to stick my fingers down my own throat. Oh, and the "I love _______" bit at the end was downright repulsive, almost as bad as the animation.Now, not all of Disney's direct-to-video sequels are bad. Mulan 2 and Lilo and Stitch 2 were definitely watchable, An Extremely Goofy Movie was entertaining (still not as good as the original, though), and Toy Story 2 was awesome. Hunchback of Notre Dame 2 is worse than Cinderella 2 and Belle's Enchanted World. Yes, it's that bad. Please don't subject yourself or your children to this garbage. I think I just heard Walt Disney turn over in his grave. Fans of the original such as myself are sure to be disappointed. Fans of the original book by Victor Hugo will probably vomit uncontrollably, as this movie strays light-years further from the book than the original movie. I say we all pretend this movie never existed and that all copies are burned. I only gave it one star because I was unable to give it a negative score.
