Very interesting film. Was caught on the premise when seeing the trailer but unsure as to what the outcome would be for the showing. As it turns out, it was a very good film.

After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

Despite the double star studded leads of the legendary Robert Redford and James Galdofini, they really couldn't help this crass jinogistic tale set in a prison for US military inmates.Taking in part its cue from Shawhank Redemption but without any class or twists, we don't really have much to say more. It's just twee.Seriously just avoid this film. It's not worth watching even for the leads. Interesting to see some early roles for a few recognisable faces, but beyond that it's worthless.

Movie Review: "The Last Castle" (2001)Raising an over-budgeting 72 Million U.S. Dollars for an over-stated screenplay by David Scarpa & Graham Yost, producer Robert Lawrence engages wronged director Rod Lurie, who is unable to find access into a fairly simplified confrontation between a convicted Lieutenant General, performed artificially-restraint by actor Robert Redford and a Colonel as chief of staff, portrayed by coldly received, yet strong glances sending behind metal-framed glasses actor James Gandolfini (1961-2013) in a United States military prison setting, shot on location in state of Tennesse, where character conflict originated by an indecisive mortification of calling the Colonel battle inexperienced, which sends the General to endure several sufferings as walking stones from one side to the other side in the prison's front-yard. The actions eventually earns the main character every inmates trust to turn the picture into an updated, yet helpless variation of "Mutiny On The Bounty" (1935) without reaching any lasting conclusion for the authority-fighting men of disavowed honor, making the picture a disappointment of an unless at first looks atmospheric scenario, which had the opportunity under different direction to make use of the given production values, denying the waste of unsatisfactory cinematography with no desperately needed operating immersive hand-held motions as behind-expectations unnaturally unemotional soundtrack by Jerry Goldsmith (1929-2004) and three additional supporting cast members as Robin Wright as the General's Daughter Rosalie, Mark Ruffalo as whistleblowing inmate's mole Yates and Delroy Lindo as superior General Wheeler; all given hardly a chance under director Rod Lurie to make a stand of prevailing this major bomb for the company of DreamWorks Pictures LLC releasing in Fall 2001 to disastrous attendance results at the domestic movie houses.© 2017 Felix Alexander Dausend (Cinemajesty Entertainments LLC)

A military prison run by a heavy-handed warden (James Gandolfini) is the setting for this action drama.A disgraced three star military General (Robert Redford) is sent here to serve a sentence for a miscalculation that led to the deaths of a few of his troops.Things tick along okay for a while, but soon Redford and Gandolfini cross paths and the rest is history. Military history.Redford leads a rebellion against the warden, and soon wins the respect of the other men. This leads to one of the most fun finales that I've ever seen in a film - where the prisoners fully rise up and take on the guards.Things start out a little slow, which might put off fans who are looking for pure action, but as we reach the second half of the film things begin to pick up.There's also a subplot where Delroy Lindo plays one of Redford's colleagues, and the two men still have a good companionship. As Gandolfini's nefarious antics hit a fever pitch a lot of the film focuses on getting the audience hopes up that Lindo will arrive in time to help save the day.The cast here is great and, in another world, The Last Castle could easily have been a classic - however it falls short, hence my 7/10 rating. Some films have that 'wow' factor that can't be predicted or can't be measured, and The Last Castle doesn't quite have that.

This movie is an affront to the military by a leftist who hates the military and the USA. A 4 star US Army General allowing soldiers to murder civilians! really? As a veteran of the US Army this movie is a joke. There is no way that a US 4 star General would allow something like that to happen! oh and the prisoners are innocents abused by the guard! silly and so predictable! not worth the time. No wonder Redfords movies fail at the box office. All his movies are themed towards his bias' and have a communist leftist spin. Avoid this movie!Oh and the Prison Commandant, A Colonel allows abuse and murder to occur. No officer in the military who risk his life, career and reputation to abuse anyone under his charge!
