It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.

This movie supposed to be a "romantic comedy" but there is no comedy in the entire movie. The acting is terrible and the plot is predictable and boring. It is another one of those "Jewish family" movies that are so predictable.I found a few scenes offensive as there are several "jabs" at those of the Christian faith. If the story was about a protestant family and the "jabs" had been about those of the Jewish faith they would be termed anti-semitic.I rented this movie because of the cast, but Meryl Streep and Uma Thurman showed their age and probably gave one of their worst, if not the worst performances, of their career. Greenberg is no better, playing the part of a young immature male that thinks nothing of "boinking" any female he can get into his bed.Don't waste your time with this one.

It was watchable... just about. It isn't a really bad film, but it has practically no storyline, and it drags on WAY too long. Also the ending is rather terrible. I think it had a lot of potential to be a good film with the scenario that it revolves around... but the script and storyline was far too restricting and nothing happened throughout the whole film really. On top of this it made me feel like yelling at the characters for being annoying. I found that I just thought the film was a bit stupid and the characters were irritating. The cast was good, Uma Thurman and Meryl Streep both acted well as usual... but their talents were kinda wasted on this. All in all... it's pretty terrible to be honest.

My biggest problem with Prime is that it is not a consistent movie but rather felt like 2 separate movies - a cute romantic comedy taking over the first half and a dull romantic drama taking over the second half.I quite enjoyed the first half of the movie; it was light hearted and cute and the whole dynamic with Meryl Streep (Lisa) being Uma Thurman (Rafi)'s psychiatrist but also Bryan Greenberg (David)'s mother was very enjoyable to watch. Basically, Lisa is Rafi's long standing psychiatrist. Rafi is a recent 37 year old divorcée who, through a friend, meets David, a 23 year old aspiring artist. David pursues Rafi and the two hit it off. Problem? Lisa is David's Mother and also Rafi's psychiatrist. At first Lisa doesn't realize that Rafi's new man is her son because Rafi lies about the age difference and David also lies about the age difference to his Mother but eventually the pieces come together and Lisa has to decide whether to step down as Rafi's shrink or continue to help her and in turn betray her trust. The whole dynamic is light and fun and lends itself to quite a few laughs. The problem? Half way through the movie all is revealed and the movie turns into a romantic drama between Rafi and David. The laughs take a backseat and the focus is on whether or not they can make it as a real couple. I personally do not like movies about a boy and a girl and their drama. I found the last half hour to be painstakingly boring and I found myself questioning where the fun and laughter from the first half of the movie went. It was really hard to sit through the usual woes of an on screen couple complete with breakups, makeups, the usual tearful apology, the 'let me run into you at the store' moment, etc... It all depends on what type of movie you enjoy. The trailers for this movie along with the description set the scene of a funny romantic comedy but the reality is that the first half of the movie is just that, the second half? Usual couple drama minus barely any laughs. If you like that? Great but if you don't? BEWARE.5/10

Rafi (Thurman) meets David (Greenberg) on a night out and the two instantly become attracted to one another. The age gap however concerns Rafi's therapist (Streep) Uma Thurman's Oscar nominated performance in Pulp Fiction a good 15 years ago was one of the brightest sparks in Quentin Tarantino's faultless crime picture. Her charm and vigour matched by Travolta was a glorious addition to the intertwining tale in the crime world. 5 years ago Thurman once more shined in Kill Bill that saw her secure a demanding physical role as The Bride. So with these strong appreciate dramatic roles that receive accolades from all around the world, it's a wonder why the actress is often appearing in predictable unfunny romantic comedies. My Super ex girlfriend and The Accidental Husband are embarrassing films but to cast an Oscar nominee? And when this came on TV, I had the same expectations given the plot synopsis. Guy likes girls but there are problems in their relationship and etcetera. The first segment of this film sets out the stall for a straight forward relationship "crisis with love". Thurman's Rafi is recently divorced and struggling and surprise someone who is also single comes along and immediately the two are practically in love. From the awkward look away to the getting up courage phone call, this getting together is inevitable as next Christmas. However, and this is big, this Younger picture is surprising in that unlike the intolerable My Super Ex girlfriend and Be Cool, this is quite frequently likable. Younger plays with the characters and allows them to move at their own pace. The scenes are often short with minimal dialogue and good close up shots, which makes this very simple to continue watching. After the horrible opening this strategy pays off as where it doesn't offer much originality, the simplicity and harmlessness keeps you moderately intrigued. One of the big concepts in this genre is to convey a realistic issue. For example When Harry met Sally looks at the fabrications of friendship in relationships whilst Brief Encounter looks at the insecurity of affairs and true happiness. The ideology encoded here is the big age difference between Rafi and David. In modern times, such a big age difference is frowned upon but has become less and less surprising when looking at celebrity marriages such as Catherine Zeta Jones'. The basis for this wrongness is the opinion of David's mother, and "coincidentally" Rafi's shrink, who has a politically correct background and disapproves. This concept of age difference however has been tackled in American Beauty and The Reader among others and the awkwardness of Streep's situation does not add as much comedy as the script entails.Prime is certainly not a bad film, but nor is it anything original with a predictable climax and repetitive sequences copying other romances. Thurman offers a spark, but there are no vintage scene stealers like in the good old days.
