Boring, long, and too preachy.

If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.

Mostly, the movie is committed to the value of a good time.

This film has two things going for it--the opening song and the final credits. If you were a politically correct rainbow person before watching it, guarantee you'll end up detesting most races of color and men in general. Billy Thornton plays the usual male ass only without the idiot Southern Baptist slant he usually sports. All the other cast members are wasted and the humor is sixth grade level if that. It's all 'been there/done that' humor we've seen for the last 100 years in vaudeville and cinema only without the class or punch. The film is tired before it begins. I think a lot of writers now pool together grabbing bits and pieces of other film scripts pasting them together in hopes of a hit. It's like standing by the office shredder yanking pieces of memos here and there to create something you think might be new. Either that or they have computers writing scripts culling from all former comedies within parameters for something original. Sad, waste of money, film and time on performers' and viewers' parts.

This is a highly underrated comedy! It has a great cast and some really hilarious scenes. Billy Bob Thornton is great as always, and Jon Heder fits his role really well. This movie has a pretty unbelievable cast altogether, so many good supporting actors. Michael Clarke Duncan from The Green Mile, David Cross from Arrested Development, Paul Scheer from The League, Sarah Silverman, Ben Stiller, and so many more people you will recognize. I'm pretty disappointed that this has such a low rating. I think it's one of the better comedies that came out of the 2000's. It's similar to Anger Management with Adam Sandler and Jack Nicholson. I would recommend this movie for sure.

Jon Heder, dialing down the gawkiness of his breakthrough role in Napoleon Dynamite, stars as Roger, a spineless New York City meter maid prone to panic attacks and being picked on. He can't even muster the nerve to ask out the girl next door, Amanda, a warm-hearted Australian. Roger hits bottom when he's dumped (again) as a big brother, leading him to a secretive, cash-only class taught by Thornton's Dr. P, a self-styled self-help guru who shows weak men how to unleash their "inner lion." This films has an interesting story and premise but isn't all that great and it seems very usual compared to other films. At times it seems like it doesn't know what type of comedy it wants to be. Is it a black comedy that isn't dark enough? Or a dumb comedy that isn't stupid enough, or a gross-out comedy that isn't yucky enough? Or is it really just a romance comedy that isn't sweet enough? It starts out as a silly comedy then turns into a romantic comedy and ends that way. The film could have been much better but it wasn't so bad. Not very funny either. Decent and watchable film.

Todd Phillips is known for making funny, original comedies. From the director of Road Trip, Old School, Starsky & Hutch, and The Hangover comes School for Scoundrels.Billy Bob Thornton and Jon Heder star in this funny movie. Heder plays Roger, a hopeless romantic who wants to better his life and get the attention of a girl named Amanda. He attends a class taught by Dr. P, played by Thornton.Dr. P is not afraid to say it like it is. He believes that people have self help books because their self sucks. He has morals that are unusual, but knows how to actually make his students better themselves.Roger has even more to fight for as Dr. P always chooses one student to give a much harder time to. Roger is that student and doesn't know what to do. Later, he stands up to Dr. P and ends up graduating his class. This movie has some laughs, but lacks some morality. It is still a solid effort by director Todd Phillips. Phillips knows how to make a movie and original, but this one was a little cheesy, but still a sold effort. There is also a hilarious cameo by Ben Stiller as a former student who also got picked on by Dr. P.
