Poor Charlie Brown. He can't fly a kite, and he always loses in baseball. Having his faults projected onto a screen by Lucy doesn't help him much either. Against the sage advice and taunting of the girls in his class, he volunteers for the class spelling bee...and wins!

Good films always raise compelling questions, whether the format is fiction or documentary fact.

With only one day until The Peanuts Movie comes out, I'm writing about the first big- screen adventure the Peanuts gang took for today's review: the 1969 animated feature, A Boy Named Charlie Brown. This is where the unfortunate characteristics of our hopeless protagonist, Charlie Brown, are on full display. The beginning features every unlucky situation he's ever used to. He can't fly a kite, he can't win a baseball game, and he can't kick a football. The one person that loves to mock him of his shortcomings, Lucy Van Pelt, suggests that he not necessary suffers from a lack of luck, but rather from a lack of confidence. Taking her advice into consideration, he ends up winning a class spelling bee, and the next thing he knows, he's traveling to New York to compete in a national spelling bee. The wonderful thing about Charlie Brown is that he resembles a lot of hopeless people with a lack of confidence out there, and I've definitely been in these similar situations many times. This makes A Boy Named Charlie Brown that more special, because on top of its colorful animation, funny writing, original sound effects, and charming soundtrack, its story aims to make our hero relatable to as many of us as possible and provide a little hope for us in the most downer situations.

I did not grow up on Charlie Brown (cartoon or animation), and saw a first animated movie of this show only last year ('A Charlie Brown Christmas') - I really liked it, and this one is at least just as much fun. Charlie is sort of an everyman, or better yet, an everykid, and its not hard to relate to his problems. The tempo is slow, very slow, but the characters each have their charms, and there's always Snoopy for some comic relief. There are a couple of scenes that stand out completely from the story, such as the piano dream sequence (in which the dead come alive and what not) and Snoopy On Ice, but it is not annoying in any way - they only add to the charm. The film is simply a charming and clever string of events with a terrific conclusion, when Linus sees things clearly (finally, since he has his blankie back), and Charlie aims to kick the ball properly this time...I'll be looking forward to more of this, though I'm having big doubts with that recent one with the new animation style... A big 8 out of 10 for this one.

You don't need first-class Disney animation to produce a charmer. The Peanuts' comics' philosophical underpinnings and intelligent and witty humour is brought to the silver screen full and intact. Never before or after has a bunch of kids proved to be that thought-provoking.Yes, the pace may be a tad too slow and the animation rough around the edges, but Schulz' lovable little grown-ups with their all too well-known characteristics are sufficient compensation. And if the pic threatens to become too talky, there's always Snoopy's shenanigans to save the day.7 out of 10 security blanket cold turkeys

I saw this movie as a child in the theater when it was released. Seeing this movie at that age, in that environment leaves a big impression on me. I think what makes a good children's movie is if it has clean and witty appeal you get later on as an adult. This movie has excellent music sequences with classic Anime style, deserving of the Academy Award nomination for it's music. Charlie Brown goes to the city to participate in the spelling bee championship. Snoopy goes along on the trip and goes out to explore the city on his own. This movie has a presence of psychelic omniance that comes from being made in 1969. This is the Peanuts at it's best. This is the ultimate Peanuts movie bar none.(I keep seeing a message that keeps telling my I must have 10 lines. Now in the editing box I am typing this into, it shows that I have typed 11 lines, so what's the deal. Instead of telling me how many lines to type without clearly defining exactly how many words or characters define a line, why don't you just tell me exactly how many words or bytes you want as a minimum.)
