The storyline feels a little thin and moth-eaten in parts but this sequel is plenty of fun.

Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.

This only got 2 stars for the performances of Norm, Ben and Sara who I thought could all hold their own. Really this show is all about Judas and his betrayal, I though Judas was poor to stage shiwnrarher than rock, as for Jesus I was horrified all the way through, hasn't got the chops for a role like this, murdered most of the songs, didn't feel any emotion at all. stick to what you're good at as you're fabulous in your record career.

It's hard to ruin great material - however, John Legend was not a good choice here. He can sing, sure - but he hasn't got the acting chops to pull this off, the role requires a stronger performer. Frankly - he looked a little lost of the time.

Finally got around to watching Jesus Christ Superstar Live. There were some highlights: Brandon Victor Dixon as Judas really captured the intensity and inner turmoil of the character, and it was clear he knew that Judas is the real star, not Jesus. Sara Bareilles has a very sweet voice, like Yvonne Elliman in the original, but she doesn't have the emotional range needed to pull it off. Norm Lewis was an impressive Caiaphas, with the voice, bearing, and stage presence needed. Finally, John Legend as Jesus... At first I was impressed with his decision to play Jesus as subdued, confused, lost, and passionless--as a counterpart to Judas. But it soon became clear that it was his limitations as a singer and actor that were the reasons for this portrayal.Watch if you can, without the numerous KFC commercials, but maybe watch the 1973 film instead.Final note: the multicultural casting, as in the 1973 film, is great, but in a film about the final days of Jesus--that upstart Jew who changed the world--the director couldn't cast even one Jewish actor/singer in a principal role?

Maybe I am too much of a Neely fan but the singing did not have the passion that the movie portrayed. I love the 73 movie the best. I also had the original Broadway version and although this version had more passion then that, it was so lacking. Jesus and Judas both seemed not to have the strength nor range to pull off their rolls. Where was the rage, the sadness, and the agony? I've also watched the 2012 tour version and Jesus and Judas both showed more passion and feeling but the play lacked the visuals that this one possessed. Another thing I noticed that the lyrics in several if not all the songs was different in all the plays from the movie. And what passion this play had in the songs was not at the same part in the song as was in the movie. The audience and many very long commercials was a hugh distraction. I'm so glad that I DVR'd this so I didn't actually had to watch them. I'm glad that I got to watch this but my favorite will alway be the 73 movie with Ted Neely and Carl Anderson.
