just watch it!
I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
If you're interested in the topic at hand, you should just watch it and judge yourself because the reviews have gone very biased by people that didn't even watch it and just hate (or love) the creator. I liked it, it was well written, narrated, and directed and it was about a topic that interests me.
I have wanted to see the series for many years. I got the opportunity to acquire the film, a slightly trimmed down version of the series. It's a decent watch, a pretty good mystery, beautiful setting and fine performances. Overall I was a little let down by the film overall, partly because of the slightly predictable conclusion, but it's generally good until then.Jeremy Brett is by far and away the star of the show, overflowing in charisma and personality, he was strikingly handsome back in the day, he draws you in. Prunella Ransome is also fantastic, believable as the desperate traveller seeking her sister.I wonder if the pacing in the series would have been better, it's not worthy of cult status, but hopefully one day it will receive a full commercial release. 6/10
