Orleans (2015)
Orléans is a typical provincial Russian town on the banks of a salt lake called Yarovoye. The town is 'steeped in evil'. But it isn't some great evil. This evil is of a banal and everyday type: Lida the hairdresser has indiscriminate affairs, followed by numerous abortions; Rudik the doctor enjoys an endless supply of women, thanks to his position, neglecting his paralyzed father who lives with him and hoping the old man will die soon; the local officer of the law has no qualms about committing murder; a magician from the local circus might actually be sawing women in half on stage... One day, a mysterious man appears in this quiet backwater town. He goes by the title of the Executor: at least that's what it says on his business card...

There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes
Excellent and certainly provocative... If nothing else, the film is a real conversation starter.
There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.
It is interesting even when nothing much happens, which is for most of its 3-hour running time. Read full review
That is the case when really wanted to make art-house film, but got no idea how to. So, there is a very poor scenario on philosophical subjects as the result of horrific violence against the spinal cord (because brains are not suitable for such creativity). In order to make everything not so cheap it was flavored with allusions to the Bible, newspaper "The Sun" and boyscout reference. Mostly, poorly. As you begin to watch it looks good, and at some point I even thought it's really OK. Hah, not this time. Roughly after 40 minutes it starts to drive you into a wild longing, 'coz you clearly realize what they try to tell, but nothing more happens thereafter. Moreover, sometimes movie is revealing it inner meaning (for kids and slows I guess). Great idea for art movie (which it supposed to be). Nonsense, what else can I say...
