In truth, there is barely enough story here to make a film.

Ok... Let's be honest. It cannot be the best movie but is quite enjoyable. The movie has the potential to develop a great plot for future movies

One of the film's great tricks is that, for a time, you think it will go down a rabbit hole of unrealistic glorification.

A clunky actioner with a handful of cool moments.

From the 12 film Hollywood Horror DVD (UK) collection, came Mirror Mirror (1990) a teen high school flick, come haunted house, come slasher blood fest. This movie is at least fairly pacy but lacks any kind of character development and totally lacks dread or tension. Sometimes i though,t is this meant to be black humour, if so it is rather flat. However Karen Black of airport 1975 fame is watchable as a somewhat self obsessed mother, but overall this B movie romp is just a little to stale.

I got Mirror Mirror mainly because Yvonne De Carlo was in it (I thought she was great in American Gothic) but sadly she didn't have a very big role in this film. It starts off OK and the pace moves along nicely...but by the end it starts getting a bit tedious and dull. That's not to say that this is a boring film, but it's just very average and nothing spectacular. I didn't like the "posession" side of it and there were no decent gore scenes. Plus the 'main' story was very confusing and the ending doesn't make much sense at all. I did however like the story surrounding the Gothic girl and how she got revenge on her tormentors.I wouldn't particularly recommend Mirror Mirror to horror fans - it's nothing to wet yourself over.

I haven't seen Heathers, but this movie reminded me more of "The craft" than carrie. I only paid 60p for it (it was in a double-pack in a cheap Cambridge bookshop, with 'Daughter of darkness'), and for that price it was pretty good. The basic story is a girl has a mirror in her room which gives her demonic powers, she then uses these to 'bump off' people that annoy her, for instance a sarcastic teacher and a snobbish class president, so far, so cliché. One thing that did seem to set this apart from Carrie and the Craft was the gore, while it wasn't exactly "Cannibal ferox", there was some pretty gruesome 'splatter', which is frankly the reason why i buy horror movies in the first place. Also the ending was pretty ordinary too, with banging doors, wind, and leaves blowing about, and the girl realising she 'couldnt control' the demonic forces after all. All in all, a good watch, as long as you can find it for under £1 XD

`In the tradition of 'Carrie' and 'Heathers'? Try `a shameless ripoff of not only those two films, but 'The Evil Dead' and 'The Shining' as well.' That said, they really don't make bad horror movies like this anymore, and that's a shame, 'cause it's a gas.Rainbow Harvest is the Winona substitute here, and although she barely does more than mumble her lines (and occasionally scream, `YOU'RE UGLY!!!' into her haunted mirror), she's Goth way before it's fashionable, so you have to respect her. (And she's quite creative about it too, accessorizing with black leather scarves and a kind of black-spray-painted Hawaiian-Punch-guy hat. Eat your heart out, Cher.)Karen Black overacts a bit, but she's not totally without dignity, and you can't help but sympathize with her. (Unless you're a certain friend of mine, who asked, `Who is that, Horse Lips from 'M.A.S.H'?' the first time she came onscreen.)There are decent supporting performances by Kristin Dattilo (as the square chick who befriends Rainbow), Ricky Paull Goldin (in his trademarked wisecracking hunk role), and William `Larry, Darryl and Darryl' Sanderson (as some kind of pet undertaker, or something). But it's sad to see the once smokin' Yvonne DeCarlo reduced to playing what can only be thought of as the Charlotte Rae part. The eighties were the heyday for hilarious, mindbogglingly dumb horror movies like this, and `Mirror, Mirror' was one of the last of its kind. Definitely worth a look.
