Beauty and the Beast (1976)

If you like to be scared, if you like to laugh, and if you like to learn a thing or two at the movies, this absolutely cannot be missed.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

I watched this movie when I was a teenager and I was babysitting the night I saw it. I have been looking for this movie for over 30 years now. I would love to own this movie. I am a big fan of George C. Scott. I would love to find a way to watch this movie again on DVD or on computer. I seen this movie one time and never seen it again. I have looked high and low to buy this movie and have had no luck with it. I would also like to see it on TV again. I don't have cable I have regular TV so to see it on TV again for me it would have to be on a regular channel. Please put it on TV again and please put it on DVD and I will definitely buy it.

The performance of George C Scott in this version of Beauty and the Beast is absolutely breathtaking. You simply cannot take your eyes off him. I would go so far as to say his performance is spellbinding. The film is beautifully directed and has allowed George C Scott to work his magic. Likewise, the editing has been expertly done and is unobtrusive. No other versions of this film come anywhere near close to this one. You will remember this film for a long time.I would love to get my hands on a copy of this version of Beauty and the Beast unfortunately it doesn't seem be be available. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

The first comment made that many people would like to purchase this movie is very true. My mother-in-law has been looking to purchase this movie for quite some time now. I thought I may be able to purchase it on ebay or something but have yet to find the one she wants with George C. Scott. If it can be worked out for this to be purchased I would be on of the first to give it as a gift to my mother-in-law. She would love to see it in black and white but color I'm sure will not matter. I have not seen this movie so I am not going to rate it but I'm sure if she saw it and has been looking for a while for it, than it means something.

I, too, saw this over 25 years ago and have never forgotten it. It was one of the most splendidly beautiful productions of the story I have ever seen. The chemistry between George C. Scott and Trish Van de Vere was magnificent.I also remember that Ms. Van de Vere played Beauty as a strong-willed woman, not a simperer as the character has been portrayed. Although I loved the Disney version, as well as the TV series, this production was the best of the traditional ones. I seem to recall being told at one time that Mr. Scott bought the rights to the production. If that is so, then, Mr. Scott, please allow its release to DVD. I see that I am not the only one who wants a copy.
