I Was Possessed by God (2000)
On Valentine's Day, 1993, Caveh Zahedi decided to ingest 5 grams (a very large dose) of hallucinogenic mushrooms. For the first time in his mushroom-taking history, he had an experience of "divine possession," in which he felt that a divine being took possession of his body and spoke through him, in a voice that was not his, and with knowledge that he himself did not possess. He later tried several times to repeat the experience. I WAS POSSESSED BY GOD is the documentary record of one such attempt.

Wonderful character development!
Perfect cast and a good story
I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
Just intense enough to provide a much-needed diversion, just lightweight enough to make you forget about it soon after it’s over. It’s not exactly “good,” per se, but it does what it sets out to do in terms of putting us on edge, which makes it … successful?
Imagine watching the trip scene in "easy rider" for 30 minutes. This is one strange, daring film, at times hard to watch. Caveh's journey into psychedelic experience holds nothing back. He's very brave, or very foolish, I can't decide. Was the film done as an experiment? His motivation doesn't seem to be crass publicity ("hey watch me trip dude!"), but more of an attempt to capture an exotic personal experience in front of the lens.
