Tied for the best movie I have ever seen
good back-story, and good acting
The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one
I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.
I'll start with the negatives - not a lot happens on-screen and there is a reliance on unlikely plot devices. For example, a thermal imaging camera is introduced at precisely the time it becomes necessary and as an unlikely Christmas present. It could very easily have arrived on the island as part of the military observer's equipment. Using guns to shoot at invisible attackers with tentacles seems a lot less efficient than handing out axes and machetes...The positives though... I found the directing very mature and the whole mood very immersive and suspenseful. Obviously the budget and technical constraints were recognised and so the filmmakers went down the Jaws/Alien route of leaving the big reveal as late as possible and leaving as much to the imagination as possible. Consequently the better part of the film is the first 2/3 of runtime. And there were some pleasant details. The casting was appropriate for the location in terms of age and the characters were mixed and interesting with an absence of California teeth or tans. The film didn't flinch from showing gore but was a long way from being reliant on it and the plot was interesting if inconclusive in the finish.Overall, then, a reasonable sci-fi plot suffering from limitations but elevated by insightful direction and great choice of location into something worth watching.
Not a bad film. If you like low budget horrors then give it a go. The location and mood I enjoyed more than the story line itself.
I'm still reeling from this one.Its basically a hammer- horror -'comedy' , complete with abysmal script , timing, production, direction ,and characters that only had depth once they were pulled apart..
The movie is obviously low-budget, but that doesn't mean it is a bad or badly made movie. You just cannot expect it to be at the same level as some big blockbuster movie. There were some interesting ideas and although the movie needs a new ending, it was interesting enough and I actually enjoyed watching it.
