I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.
There is just so much movie here. For some it may be too much. But in the same secretly sarcastic way most telemarketers say the phrase, the title of this one is particularly apt.
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
This is a 15-minute short film from almost 20 years ago. For Peter Thorwart it was his second short film as a movie maker. Until this day, he is mostly known for his work on the script of "The Wave", one of Germany's most know movies to this day. Especially abroad. His work here was also pretty successful. This quarter of an hour served as the basis of a pretty successful feature film and even a television series afterward. Thorwarth also played a central character in bot the short film and the movie. One major difference between these two versions is Alexandra Maria Lara's story. She does not appear in this short movie. They kept some of the key actors together, such as Richter, Thomczyk (a personal favorite) and of course Thorwarth, but they had to recast Dieter Krebs' part for example as he died before the feature movie. The story is basically about a gang of construction workers who trick their boss into believing a lethal accident happened and get some money in order not to say anything. I have to say I was not too impressed by the feature movie, but the short film is fine. I believe the material is more suitable for a runtime of 15 minutes and it does not drag here the way it did in the 90-minute movie.
