The movie turns out to be a little better than the average. Starting from a romantic formula often seen in the cinema, it ends in the most predictable (and somewhat bland) way.

Nothing says 80s like David Hasselhoff and Linda Blair. The film opens with an event that took place in the past of a pregnant woman being hunted down on an island hotel. Leslie (Leslie Cumming) is a virgin doing paranormal studies at this site along with her frustrated photographer boyfriend Hasselhoff. As the hotel is for sale a group of rich people, including the expected Linda Blair come to the location...all of which is an elaborated plan by a dead witch who wants to kill off a few in the group. The group is stuck in the house during a storm, but Tom Bodett keeps the light on for them, so how scary can it be?Yes. Totally 80's. Acting par on a Hassellhoff scale. Made for TV type sound track. Almost campy looking back at it.Parental guide: rape. nudity (Leslie Cumming)

"Witchery" focuses on a family looking to purchase a building on a Massachusetts island. Upon visiting, they become stranded in a storm, and unfortunately for them, the island is riddled by malevolent hauntings. It's difficult to know quite what one is in for in a late-eighties horror flick starring David Hasselhoff and Linda Blair, anyone's guess is probably close to the reality. Tagged as a sequel to the minor but effective "Ghosthouse" (though entirely unrelated), this film is the epitome of exploitative camp, full of grotesque set-pieces and hamfisted dialogue. The film's narrative-or at least, what there is of it-splinters off with each member of the group who are haunted by the dead lurking within a former hotel on the island. For what it's worth, the film is quite atmospheric, and there really is never a dull moment-any lull in pacing is virtually filled by the grotesque gore effects, which are elaborate and nasty, in true Italian fashion.Overall, "Witchery" is a 'good' bad film. The setting and scares are enjoyable in spite of often being quite hokey, and I can't bring myself to knock anything with Linda Blair in it, even with what little she has to work with here. "Witchery" really epitomizes the slew of Italian horror films of the eighties that strived toward American sensibilities: It's gory, it's gritty, and it's completely bonkers. 6/10.

I have only seen it a few times but each time it freaked me out! I'm not a horror fan by any means, usually I can't take it but this film is unique in it's ability to entertain you. I remember curling up in my best friend's bed as we watched a pregnant woman jump out of window to avoid the creepy Lady in Black. I loved the attempt to be recreate the fear and paranoia of Agatha Christie's "Ten Little Indians" (1965), while using The Hoff to move the story on. That's all he is there for. As the photographer with the virgin girlfriend on the premises without permission, it does seem a little obvious what will happen but it's still cool. I gave it an 8/10 because I really enjoyed the film. I know it's no blockbuster and it's not exactly well made but I still like it.

"Witchery" is a decent little Euro-Trash horror yarn! David Hasselhoff is pretty damn funny in this one and sadly, he's one of the better actors. Linda Blair is downright terrible and the lady who plays Hoff's wife...she is hilariously bad! The plot of this film is ridiculous too. It's got some holes, which you can't help but notice, but it remains entertaining throughout. The gore in "Witchery" is freaking outstanding. I loved the part where the old bag gets "sucked" into the trash chute and ends up in the chimney to roast! And the part where the lady "gets taken advantage of" by the Devil was pretty damned disturbing. I'd say this one is a must for gorehounds. If you're looking for an overproduced, well-acted flick, look elsewhere. But if you like old-school style Italian sleaze and over the top gore, "Witchery" belongs on your shelf.I'm surprised by the low rating on here! What were you people expecting, "The Exorcist?" 7 out of 10, kids.
