When this year's round of unsuspecting Northerners fail to show up for their annual Guts N' Glory Jamboree, the residents of Pleasant Valley take their cannibalistic carnival on the road and head to Iowa where they encounter spoiled heiresses Rome & Tina Sheraton and the cast and crew of their "Road Rascals" reality show. Performing "The Bloodiest Show on Earth", our Southern Maniacs prove more than ratings killers in what John Landis has called "one of the rare sequels that surpasses the original".

What makes it different from others?

I really wanted to like this movie. I feel terribly cynical trashing it, and that's why I'm giving it a middling 5. Actually, I'm giving it a 5 because there were some superb performances.

This is a coming of age storyline that you've seen in one form or another for decades. It takes a truly unique voice to make yet another one worth watching.

This is a dark and sometimes deeply uncomfortable drama

I bought this movie because of two things; the first reason being that the original "2001 Maniacs" was actually quite good, and the second reason being that this sequel had Bill Mosely in it.Then I sat down and watched this movie, and wow, what went wrong here. This sequel should never have seen the light of day. It was terrible, and it was an insult to part 1. The story was weak from the very beginning. The southerners taking their killing acts on a road trip? Come on! It was so lame. This movie was lacking interesting death scenes that you had in the first movie. The killing scenes in this movie was nothing short of ridiculous. It was lacking gore, lacking cruelty, lacking inventive thinking.Wouldn't you think some good acting would bring the movie up a notch? Yes, you would, wouldn't you? Well, just a shame that this movie didn't have any good acting in it! Oh my God, it was an eyesore to watch and practically physically straining to listen to. It was like watching wooden puppets that had really bad ventriloquists doing the dialogue. I have seen some of the people in this movie in other movies and their performances in those movies far outshone the stuff they did here. It was like everybody was in this movie with only half a heart. There was a scene where the northerners saw their friends murdered and mutilated. No shocking responses, no screams, no nothing. It was so lame. And when they were given a chance to leave, they could just run out of the maniac's small tent fair and run away, but no... Of course they didn't! The movie was just one lousy error after another. Not even Bill Mosely did anything to improve the overall impression of this movie. His performance in "2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams" was nothing to remember or be impressed by.Having sat through this horrible sequel I feel very cheated, especially because I paid money for it! And get this; on the DVD cover of the Extreme Edition DVD version it says, and I quote, "one of the rare sequels that surpasses the original. - John Landis". What the...? Did John Landis even watch part 1 to have something to compare this joke of a movie with?If you like horror movies and if you liked the original "2001 Maniacs" movie, do yourself a favor, and stay well clear of this movie. It is not worth the time or effort, and it brings shame to the original movie. Don't let it taint your impression of the original movie. This was only 'horror' in the sense of how bad the movie was!

Just finished watching 2001 Maniacs: Field of Screams on netflix...I hate to say it, but while I was a big fan of both the HGL original and the remake, this sequel to the remake was nowhere near as good as those. A few things I didn't like about this one, the few northern characters I liked died early on, leaving two characters to battle at the end that I despised. I felt no emotional connect with them, unlike the surviving two characters in the original 2001 Maniacs. Secondly, the sound editing was just atrocious. Third, I didn't care for the actor they got to play Harper. I'm not going to comment one way or the other on the basic story, as it did feel like (at least to me) that this film was a bridge to another part of the saga. The only thing I really did truly like about this film was the ending after the credits. I must admit I got a good chuckle out of it.

If only ten people attend to a screening, that does not necessarily mean, you will be watching a bad movie at the cinema. In this case, unfortunately it was exactly what we were in for. Although this movie tries so hard to be funny and not be taken seriously (and has a scene or two that might get you to chuckle for a second), it never really reaches any comedy heights.Actually it seems never to really take off at any moment. It's a shame, because Tim Sullivan seems like a very likable guy and someone who really has fun directing. And also has a way at cons or festivals. If only he could have translated that onto the screen or half of it, it would have been an entirely different beast altogether. He didn't and we don't even get mediocre with this movie ... Avoid (unless you have friends over and want to have a laugh ... for all the wrong reasons)

As a fan of B movies, low budget horror and gore I have pretty much seen a lot of tripe in my days. But this has to be one of the worst 'films' I've seen in a very long time! And I've just watched neighbor! I won't bother with the synopsis or plot as there doesn't seem much of it to speak of. The budget must have been about $20 and it shows! Only managed to get through 30 minutes of this dung heap of a movie before switching off. Bad acting, bad script, bad direction, bad sound quality, well, bad everything really! I see the original with Robert Englund gets some favourable reviews but anyone reviewing this, even the least bit sympathetically, must have worked on the movie! Avoid like the plague!
