AfterDeath (2015)

Too many fans seem to be blown away

Disappointment for a huge fan!

Best movie ever!

It's a mild crowd pleaser for people who are exhausted by blockbusters.

This has plenty of brain fodder if that's what you like.This is not a run of the mill horror film. It's more of a psychological thriller set in what might be purgatory. Five young people are trapped in an inescapable desolate location and are forced to reflect on their lives.They all try to work out why they've arrived in this horrible situation. Interesting character developments take place. The film challenges the viewer to consider whether he/she would end up in the same situation.The last scene is particularly interesting because it takes a hard line logical treatment of what the afterlife should be. I imagine the conclusion might be annoying for those of some faiths.I'd give the script a 10/10. Some slightly iffy acting and unnecessary poor special effects made me think 8/10 was appropriate.

I was very unsure of what to rate this film. As a pure and simple movie it was well done: good acting, decent pace, good FX. Even the premise is promising. However, throughout there seems to be a lot of man-hating, and the end is about as hubristic as one can get. I can only conclude this was written by someone who is still bitter from a strict religious upbringing. The last line in the film seems to sum up its message of despair. Thus I settle on a solid 4. It could have been so much better.For a better "purgatorial" film, I recommend "Kingdom Come" (2014), which has a much better theological logic to it.

So this movie plays on the idea of a Christian afterlife. In most Christian churches you can redeem yourself in various ways for your sins, but this movie has a much more dark and brutal approach to sinning. It actually is scary if you think about that it might be real, for me it was anyway. The acting was OK, the actors look good, maybe the atmosphere could have been more creepy, it was OK, but the general idea of the movie is very creepy, in any case. I don't know if you have to be Christian to like it, or get scared, but it probably helps. If you're not, at least you can think of this movie as another perspective on the afterlife and the implications of every action one does in his/her life.

I like this film for a number of reasons. Firstly, the plot was different, dark and entertaining. It was one of those films that you think about the next couple of days after seeing and you could interpret in different ways. The film appealed to my dark sense of humour (would have liked some more dark jokes) and some hot girls definitely added to the appeal. It felt like it had a decent budget, decent effects which help you immerse in the film. I struggled to find a character I really liked/identified with which is why it was an 8 for me not a 9 or 10. Definitely worth watching, some good acting, story flow and plot are strong, very entertaining.
