Five Green Berets stationed in Vietnam in 1968 grudgingly undertake the mission of a lifetime -- to secretly transport an 8,000-pound elephant through 200 miles of rough jungle terrain. High jinks prevail when Capt. Sam Cahill promises the Montagnard villagers of Dak Nhe that he'll replace their prized elephant in time for an important ritual. But for Capt. T.C. Doyle, the mission becomes a jumbo-sized headache!

Slow pace in the most part of the movie.

This is a must-see and one of the best documentaries - and films - of this year.

The film never slows down or bores, plunging from one harrowing sequence to the next.

There's a more than satisfactory amount of boom-boom in the movie's trim running time.

Yes, I'm a bit behind in my movie watching. I lived in the Middle East for years and couldn't get movies. This is just a cute movie that can be watched with the entire family. The sad part (for me and children) is when the one elephant is shot and dies. I found this to be an entertaining movie, not engulfing or engrossing. It's rated PG for war violence, yet any child can see that on TV, the news or in their own school (we've become a pitiful country). It was nice to see Danny and Ray in something besides a shoot-em-up or getting your brains eaten by Hannibal. If you just want a sit back and relax movie for the family, this is one of them. The fact that it's based on actual events is a bonus!

Operation Dumbo Drop stars Ray Liotta, Danny Glover and Denis Leary, it is set during the Vietnam war and is a Disney family comedy-drama rather implausibly based on a true event.Liotta is a US soldier who lands in a remote Vietnamese village to replace Glover and his actions leads to their sole working elephant to be killed. In order to safeguard the strategic interest of the US military, Glover and Liotta decide to locate another elephant as a replacement and bring it to the villagers as a gift.Withe the help of Leary they find an old elephant who is accompanied by a young boy but the elephant does not like flying in planes and they have to use various means to take the elephant back to the villagers. The story has enough humour and warmth to keep the kids entertained, they will enjoy the elephant going on a rampage inside a plane or in the marketplace. It is rather ludicrous despite being based on true events but Liotta and Glover look like they are having fun in a Disney movie.

Leave it to Disney to try to make light of the Vietnam War. There was nothing even remotely funny or entertaining about anything that happened in Vietnam just as there is nothing of the sort going on right now in the Middle East. What will their next movie be about....a camel being dropped into Iraq surrounded by IED's? America needs to be more responsible about its portrayal of war in films. WAR IS HORRIBLE! There is just no excuse for trying to make it anything otherwise. I found this movie to be quietly pro-war. That is no surprise coming from the American Disney Corporation. America, and Americans, must strive to end all war right now and to stand up against any form of the arts that glorifies war or, in this case, makes light of it.I was mildly entertained by the movie but the above are my thoughts upon seeing it.

I do not understand the criticism that some professional reviewers give of this film about its unrealistic treatment of the Vietnam War. I was opposed to that war from about the time that it started but I never doubted the good intentions of those young men who risked their lives fighting it. What is so wrong in playing up that aspect of it? The film is, after all, based on a true story. The film seemed to me to be like a movie version of the television show MASH done for children. Everybody has good words for MASH. Nobody ever complained about doing a comedy about the Korean War. This is a good kid's film with some really fine acting by Liotta, Glover and Leary.
