Truly Dreadful Film
Gripping story with well-crafted characters
Good concept, poorly executed.
It is both painfully honest and laugh-out-loud funny at the same time.
BBC is Kevin Spacey first film appearance since allegations of misconduct arose last fall (2017). Despite his and rest of the cast, BBC is a generic rise-and-fall movie that does nothing to elevate itself among a sea of similar looking and feeling films. Its plot is bog-standard - even if it is based on a real life story - and its characters are either stock or nonexistent while the dialogue is un-engaging and flat. For BBC, The Wolf of Wall Street is like gold (compared to brass). 5/10
What might be Kevin Spacey's final movie (at least for quite a while) lands awkwardly. What this film lacks in substance attempts somewhat clumsily to make up in Hollywood production. One could easily argue that the 80's era television movie starring Judd Nelson and other young 80's stars was substantially better. Where the television movie accentuated Nelson's protrayal of Joe Hunt as a greedy society outsider desperate for fame and fortune, and willing to dispatch anything to obtain it; including murder. This film portrays Hunt as a naive outsider who finds himself in circumstances beyond his control while making critical errors all in the name of trying to "fit in" to Beverly Hills society. This version of Billionaire Boy's Club should have been left in the 80's as a fine work of television pop culture. Like many reboots of 80's era classics, with its wide shoulder pads and Aquanet hair, just falls flat.
So the movie plays of in the 80's and suddenly they talked about Facebook and Google "wow" can that be.... not even Facebook and Google realised!
Enjoyable one-time watch, for young people especially. It deals with important questions like how far do you bend your ethics to make a dollar? There's also some good sales lessons from Kevin Spacey in this movie, i'll let you find those yourself. And Kevin's attachment to this movie really turned me on to it, he's still a great actor despite any allegations that are going on.Recommended movie for a one-time viewing.
