The film was still a fun one that will make you laugh and have you leaving the theater feeling like you just stole something valuable and got away with it.

Not sure how, but this is easily one of the best movies all summer. Multiple levels of funny, never takes itself seriously, super colorful, and creative.

With the changing tides in Indian commercial cinema and the recent arrival of truly original, smart and creative directors to the Bollywood scene, one can now truly be hopeful of CHANGE in the way films are made here in India. But for all such intelligent films we've had here in recent times,we haven't had one which is able to set itself in this very world of "over the top" Bollywood and poke fun at it through subtle satire. Well Luck By Chance is precisely a subtle satirical look at the way things work in Bollywood along with being a wonderful coming of age film about the journey of two struggling actors. And Zoya Akhtar is a name we can safely add to the list of new age Indian directors looking to Raise The Bar and make Real cinemaIt's the story of Vikram Jaisingh(Farhan Akhtar),A Delhi boy who arrives in Mumbai to follow his dreams of being an Actor.Scoffed at by his family and even discouraged by friends, Vikram realizes that to get a big role in Bollywood ,you should either already be a star or be a star's son .But he finds support in another small time actress Shona (Konkana Sen Sharma), looking to make a name for herself in Bollywood. The film charts the separate journeys of these two and the role of Luck and street smartness in building a successful career in films.Perspicacious Vikram is able to land a big break as a lead in a big production house's film after winning the Charms of a yesteryear's superstar(Dimple Kapadia) whose daughter is being LAUNCHED in that very film.Shona, on the other hand repeatedly falls prey to the Sycophantic and unethical ways of the industry while having to make do with small ,inconsequential roles. What makes the film standout is the wonderfully layered script incorporating starkly real characters set in the industry ,like the overtly superstitious veteran film producer Romi Rolly, who swears by traditional Bollywood diktats and the general satirical tone of the film, which without being preachy is able to convincingly portray the workings of Bollywood while giving us a unique coming of age story. Farhan Akhtar's underplayed performance is the driving force behind the film as he keeps it consistently real, also being astonishingly emotive in the Dramatic scenes. The film does drag a little bit towards the end , but is successfully able to convey the message, as the lead character quotes in the 1st half "Success and Failure are just choices we make".All in all, a very impressive first feature by Zoya Akhtar

sometimes bollywood movies are lost in the complicated story plots or the same generic themes or the stereotypes .... no over drama in terms of presentation ..each and every character were well portrayed in a simple and honest fashion .. talking about fashion ...since "fashion" this is another award deserving performance (for konkana) ...well for fashion priyanaka and kangana both deserved awards ... i can see the potential here ...all depends on the movies to come this year ... but the simplicity of the characters are really creditable i hope juries recognizes that ... the point being is it does not have to be a strong character that actor can ply but the sincerity in which role the actor plays ... so kudos to farhan and konkana ... u rock babe!!!

Zoya Akhtar's 2009 flick 'Luck By Chance' is a fantastic watch. A film that shows Bollywood like no other film has done yet. A film that entertains you from start to end. Zoya makes a film of a lifetime. I still wonder how did this film bomb at the box office!Performances: Rishi Kapoor is a veteran actor, his performance here is outstanding as the Punjabi Producer who does everything what his Astrologer says. Dimple Kapadia is superb, as ever. Juhi Chawla's cameo is good. Sanjay Kapoor is fantastic as the failed actor-turned-director. Farhan Akhtar doesn't look like a hero, I wonder how he gets films which he doesn't deserve at all. Konkona Sen Sharma is natural. Hritihik looks disinterested in a extended cameo. Ali Khan is good. Many actors make cameos in the film, but only Shahrukh and surprisingly Anurag Kashyap's leave an impact.Luck By Chance deserves a watch.

Intro : A look into the inner fabric of what we today know as Bollywood. The Scenario : The movie follows the trials and tribulations of two main characters (Farhan and Konkona) who are after the same goals - Bollywood Stardom. Along the way they come across a series of characters and personalities who form the crux of the industry. How much will one sacrifice of his/her principles and "person" to get ahead? What effect does rising stardom have on friends and family?Another well crafted parallel story line is the point of view of a troubled Producer (Rishi Kapoor) and obstacles he needs to go through to get a bunch of ego's and personalities together. (Like a Coalition Government!)The movie also gives us an insight into what goes behind the finished item - namely the unsung heroes in the industry. The music is pretty good and well placed in the film. Pros : The casting director should get credit here - actors, special appearances have been rock solid without being overdone. The levels of black humour are abundant. Konkona and Farhan have been in top form but Rishi Kapoor (the arch-typical Punjabi Bollywood producer) probably gets away with the top prize here. Watch out for the little cameo by Saurab Shukla (Slumdog M, Dasvidaniya) who sets the movie rolling in many ways.Cons : Perhaps the movie could have been a tad shorter but that may not be a problem if you're enjoying it. I know most people will not agree but despite being an improving and likable actor - Farhan's voice takes some getting used to. Well we got used to Rani M so it may not be that bad :)
