There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

The ExterminatorVigilantes in the 1980s were everyday people who just lost faith in McGruff the Crime Dog.And while the lawful mascot isn't mentioned in this action movie, his presence is felt.POW John (Robert Ginty) tries to assimilate back in NYC when the Ghetto Ghouls break into where he works and kills his co-worker. Enraged he grabs a flamethrower and exacts revenge. Unsatisfied, John moves on to busting up the mafia and a child sex ring. Dubbed the Exterminator by the press, John is dogged by a determined detective (Christopher George). Dubbed a Death Wish doppelganger by critics on its released, this obvious nod to the seminal street vigilante blockbuster also had a second-rate sequel. Decades on and this alleged knockoff still holds its own with some pretty intense interrogation and death scenes that rival modern remakes.Furthermore, scorching thugs is a double win because it also feeds the neighbourhood. The exterminator its a film that tries to replicate the feeling of dread and frustration that the original Deah Wish had, but it accomplishes it on a different way.The film its filled with sleazy characters and situations, weird scumbags fill the screen from time to time, but it also has a very peculiar emotion to it, its not a soulless film, there are some genuine sad moments in the film that I wasn't expecting from a 80s vigilante action film. Some of the best scenes in the film are the sleazy and dirty scenes, whether it is a death scene or a rape scene, its very riveting and hard to watch, but in a good way.The effects in the film are surprisingly very well done, I specially want to spotlight an amazing beheading that happens at the beginning of the film, its pretty amazing and overwhelmingly great. It has many issues like the editing at points, could be weird or some sloppy writing or acting, but overall I believe that its very well worth a look, definitely recommended for those who look for a film like this.

This movie is bad. And not the good kind of bad. It tries to be really cool, but it can't deliver at all.The director seemingly knew nothing about composition. The revealing shots and cuts are ridiculous to watch. There is also no character ark. The guy starts out as the Exterminator right away. All it takes is his friend getting attacked and he's like: "Yep, this city just turned into Vietnam. Prepare yourselves, bitches." The dialogue is bad, the only exception being when the Exterminator talks to his friend at the hospital. The cast consists mostly of people who seem to have had their first and last attempt at acting in this movie. I loved the scene where the detective is talking to the doctor on the phone and they kept his takes even though he had clearly slurred his lines.Things I learned from this movie: decapitation is easy as butter, as man, uniquely among mammals, has no cervical spine; the authorities will first contact a male victim of violence's best work friend before informing his wife; also, euthanasia is not a big deal, it's more similar in gravity to a spontaneous coffee date.

The Exterminator is a borderline video nasty from the 80s heyday of the genre.Cheap looking in parts though overall shot with a higher budget than usual for this type of fare-I have to admit I was kinda rooting for Ginty's trigger happy anti-hero.Unfortunately he is given little in terms of character development but shows a good way with a one liner and handles the few sensitive moments well(surely he deserved better than ending his career on Baywatch Nights!).But it's the graphic violence that is the film's selling point-sometimes nasty other times a bit laughable.Villains are straight from central casting though manage to be unpleasant nonetheless.Movie takes an unexpected dark turn with a sequence involving a vice den-which will leave you feeling like you need a shower.I enjoyed it-with reservations. The makers of the Jason Bourne trilogy were certainly paying attention to the ending-I'l say no more than that!
