Plot so thin, it passes unnoticed.

It’s fine. It's literally the definition of a fine movie. You’ve seen it before, you know every beat and outcome before the characters even do. Only question is how much escapism you’re looking for.

The tone of this movie is interesting -- the stakes are both dramatic and high, but it's balanced with a lot of fun, tongue and cheek dialogue.

Imagine a completely messed up family where the daughter is a prostitute who even has sex with her own father, the father himself is sexually repressed after having been severely humiliated, the son is being bullied every day and resorts to extreme violence against his mother in order to release his built up aggression, and the mother turns into a heroin addict in order to deal with the physical and emotional pain... At first glance, one can assume that there are no redeeming features about this family and absolutely no way to improve their situation. Suddenly, a strange man (obviously a metaphor for family values) comes into their lives by hitting the father with a big rock on the head and then bringing him home for dinner. The events that follow involve necrophilia, murder and other acts of violence and bizarre sexual interactions. Even though the movie is somewhat extreme, it never feels over the top to me, since the family is already so messed up that the way to fix the situation is definitely beyond counseling... And, in the end, the film turns even somewhat sentimental. I must say that this is a serious film presented in a rather simplified format, which makes it accessible to a larger audience. It delivers a message regarding the importance of family values and is definitely worth watching. Just be open minded.

"Visitor Q" is directed by Takashi Miike ("Audition", "Ichi the Killer") so you know that you are in for something unique when you sit down to watch this movie. And boy does he deliver oddities in this movie. It is without a doubt the most weird and disturbing Miike movies that I have seen so far.Takashi Miike is a great director and has a very direct and unusual approach to film making, and thanks for that. It is great that there are someone who has the courage to be this controversial and bizarre. The story in "Visitor Q" is about the estranged Yamazaki family who is dysfunctional beyond comprehension. The father, Kiyoshi, is working in television and is apparently making a segment on teens in Japan, and the very first scene of the movie is where we see him having sex with his own daughter. Yeah, that's right, it is that twisted. So already there from the very start, you have the standards of the oddities that you are in for in the movie. The mother of the family, Keiko, is physically abused and beaten by their son, and is providing sexual services to strangers in order to maintain her drug habit. The son, Takuya, is bullied by boys from the school and is taking out his anger and frustration on his mom. The daughter, Miki, has run away from home and is selling sex in order to make money. Being hit on the head twice by a stranger, the father invites the assailant into their home. Oddly enough, the visitor turns out to be the ingredient required to fix this dysfunctional family. The story is so odd and so out there that it is just downright bizarre. But oddly enough, it works out so well, because the story is so far out there that it is actually interesting to watch. And there is something disturbingly captivating about this dysfunctional family."Visitor Q" has some really good acting performances, even though it has a rather small ensemble of people on the cast list. The movie is really carried by Ken'ichi Endô (playing the father) and Kazushi Watanabe (playing the Visitor), and is well helped along also by Shungiku Uchida (playing the mother). It should be said that "Visitor Q" is somewhat of an acquired taste, and it is not suitable for just everyone. It is recommended that you are familiar with Takashi Miike's previous work and also a fan of Japanese cinema. There is a fair share of nudity and adult situations in the movie, so take that into consideration as well before you sit down to watch the movie.I did enjoy the movie, despite it being so weird, but then again I like movies that are not mainstream Hollywood productions. This movie is a great addition to Takashi Miike's legacy.

Takashi Miike! This is the only reason why I watched this flick despite of the vague posters. Comedy is really something I feel can not be mixed healthily with the Horror Genre. Anyways in this movie nothing seemed balanced to me. The movie is very disturbing is what I had read. Yeah true it is really disturbing as the opening scene is of a father being seduced by his daughter and having sex. Maybe this is a factor people have given positive reviews on sites that the whole movie is full of these abnormal instances. So much of sex and violence is involved and the concept of incest is exploited. The movie makes no sense to me. The Visitor Q hardly makes sense and nothing is explained. Perverted things keep on happening without any explanation. Hard cuts everywhere ruin the continuity. If people find it redeeming wrt the concept, I strongly object. Things are too exaggerated here which helps in making it dumb. It was rubbish for me. I score just for a scene before climax which I can't tell here as will be considered a spoiler. The climax was again sick. This whole movie is very rubbish. No elements of horror. I could not laugh as well which means the Genre is not clear as well. What I felt was totally sick after watching it. Don't Waste your time.

Sex and violence is part of many families. The Orlando area, Florida, and the world have been captivated by it for three years now, and it hardly seems to be slowing down. But, one hardly knows what to expect when a film opens with a father having sex with his daughter, a prostitute. Soon, we see his son beating his mother, who is soon covered in welts. The son, himself is a target of violence, as bullies lob firecrackers and shoot roman candles into his bedroom.Miike (Audition, Ichi the Killer) stretches boundaries in his films, and he certainly stretches them here. This is a highly dysfunctional family, even more so that the one we have been exposed to over the past few years here. Oh, did I mention, mom is a junkie and a prostitute also.Enter Visitor Q. He really doesn't do anything (except for mom, and later the daughter), but his mere presence changes the family. This film has some of the most disgusting scenes, made intentionally humorous by Miike. I won't describe them except to say they include pretty much everything from necrophilia, scatophilia, incest, rape to murder. The film is not for the faint of heart.Miike gives us a dazzling display of existential psychosis that will have us wondering about the mysteries of life.
