Self-important, over-dramatic, uninspired.

I wanted to like it more than I actually did... But much of the humor totally escaped me and I walked out only mildly impressed.

I enjoyed watching this film and would recommend other to give it a try , (as I am) but this movie, although enjoyable to watch due to the better than average acting fails to add anything new to its storyline that is all too familiar to these types of movies.

Wow!! What a really FUN Movie!! The very best we've seen this YEAR!!The story is about a guy who graduates summa cum laude as a medical doctor in India, but after emigrating to Toronto, can't find a employment to complete his medical residency requirements in order to practise medicine in Canada; so takes the only menial job available to him, as a cab driver. Whoever directed this movie is absolutely amazing!! Notwithstanding the somewhat serious basic essence of the underlying story, the accompanying comedic choral-like descant that rises over and above the entire theme kept us continuously engaged in gales laughter throughout the entire movie! An absolutely great movie!!

Dr. Cabbie recounts the timeless tale of millions of Deepak Chopras who had come to the land of opportunities to heal people but ended up driving cabs in Canada. The movie strikes a chord with the immigrants and creates a feeling of déjà vu by beautifully showcasing peerless moments from their own life: aspiration for a better future, cultural shock of landing in an alien country, hopelessness in the face of rejection, vulnerability amid ironclad laws, desperate fight for recognition and everlasting optimism. Dr. Cabbie- an entertaining visual treat with a crisp story line and an inherent message. Not to be missed!

Pleasantly surprised with the direction of this crossover movie! A light-hearted comedy portraying the challenges faced by immigrants when they arrive to Canada. The Big Bang Theory's Kunal Nayyar provides continuous laughter and Virmani plays the most significant role of Dr. Deepak Chopra, a newly landed immigrant who's forced to drive a cab even though he has a medical degree. Making the best of his situation he combines his education and practice with his current job and turns out to be a local hero! This hilarious comedy indirectly focuses on raising awareness about a serious issue in a comedic manner. A solid 4/5!Pleasantly surprised with the direction of this crossover movie! I am still "high" on this film having gone this afternoon, even after doubting it would be very good.Wow,was I pleasantly surprised.I absolutely loved it.From the first great, cinematic shots in India to Deepak's arrival in Toronto with his mom,I was utterly mesmerized. The casting is spot on,in my opinion, from his westernized uncle, and flaky but likable caucasian wife,to Tony(The Big Bang Theory)his cabbie friend, and the rest of the great cast. There was no overacting and all the situations were very believable. I laughed heartily, then, had tears in my eyes at certain truisms re immigrant professionals who are forced to drive cabs to make a living. This is a true tragicomedy. The script was wonderful and to the point,as was the plot. But for myself, being a Torontonian, how wonderful to finally portray Toronto as Toronto. It's about time. And what wonderful cinematography of the city. The shots showed the fantastic city T.O. really is,especially stunning ones of the CN tower at night. Also, throughout the movie the music was appropriate and wonderful, partly Bollywood,Italian, etc.which added to the Joie de vivre of this exceptionally funny film.I didn't want the short Bollywood dancing scene to end at Deepak's birthday party. So,if you want 101 minutes of pure escapism and entertainment, without CGI effects, far fetched ideas,or silly, gross comedy(like"Bad Grandpa")but just a realistic type story, run, don't walk to "Dr.Cabbie." I promise, you won't be disappointed. The director,Jean Francois Pouliot should be applauded for this memorable, fun film.
