Yes, absolutely, there is fun to be had, as well as many, many things to go boom, all amid an atmospheric urban jungle.

I love Elizabeth shu and her movies always are worth watching so it automatically gets a great rating, hey she's got a track record. This movie really was really enjoyable, it was a light movie, yet suspenseful without heavy b.s. After she has her new baby she experiences mental anguish and feeling inadequate. At one point she leaves her baby in her car in the garage. After calling mom, mom offers to come to her aid but she declines. She's having trouble adjusting to her new home and child and her husband is barely there. He's the guy that comes to her aid during these odd experiences but doesn't get it and quickly is gone at work. I like the simplicity of the movie and at times odd but realistic. Her new nanny isn't quit so normal, making her experience even more troubling. I think she's a witch. At times the movie did seem to lose aspects or fill ins, like why dI'd this women do this?. I hated the end but it was a thriller okay. It just goes to prove how far you can go mentally if invoked which I feel she was by that witch. Im someone who's turned on movies because they all are the same, situated in the same scenic house, this one did not and held its own. Highly recommend! Caution the end is negative.Yes,not for squeamish.

I guess I found this movie premise interesting because I am a man and have know idea what women go through emotionally and physically during the whole birthing process so post partum depression or psychosis is a mystery to me.I gave it only a 9 because there were some thing that were not explained thoroughly enough for my liking. One was the Diary she found and the girl in the grocery store that talked about her friend that used to live there. I know, I know they showed her open it up at the end and it was blank so it was actually her diary but I just felt it happened a little too quickly for the viewer to process.Other than that I loved the movie. I've watched it a couple of times again hoping I could find answers as to why and how psychosis occurs or develops to the point of matricide. That question is never fully answered. It could have something to do with the guilt she felt for killing her dog with rat poison. I mean she just really seemed like more of an absent minded person other than crazy/mad at times. I know that her being a lone a lot of the time also contributed to her condition and her husband was really never there for her and probably resented her for killing the family dog however accidentally.

Very good suspense thriller, with Shue as an expectant mother, with an emotionally neglectful husband. An attorney from NYC, he moves the family to the suburbs, to an overly expansive house, where he leaves his wife and child. There are a few parallels here to "Rosemary's Baby" (i.e. the ambitious father-to-be, the mysterious Mrs. Casperian/nanny) and many threats seemingly aimed toward the child. There is also a textbook scene whereas, when Shue becomes unbalanced, she dyes and cuts her hair. Is this the only mechanism the director has to show discord in a female?.At any rate there is a scary twist at the end, and this is one suspense LMN movie which is quite different. Do not miss. 9/10.

No idea what the negative commentary is based upon--this movie scared heck out of my husband & me b/c it could've happened to anyone. Post partum psychosis is a real, terrifying condition which is little understood in the US. In the UK (where my husband's mother is from), there are special clinics & much awareness about this debilitating condition. It's obvious that the wife is going through this & her husband, who is busily trying to make enough $$ to support his small family & large house, misses clues. Steven MackIntosh is such a brilliant actor, he makes it look almost too easy in this role. See him in Prime Suspect, as the Moriarity figure to Jane Tennison's Sherlock. Then compare that role ("The Street") to this. You will be suitably impressed. Shue does a fantastic job of spiraling downward from together, gorgeous, bright dancer to the end, which I won't give away. And of COURSE her hair looked like S*** that was part of the spiral downward. AUGH! I hate when people just don't GET IT. The cinematography was brilliant. My husband & I (and friends) watch 3-5 movies a week, most recently this & Hitchcock's "Strangers on a Train."
