It's a movie as timely as it is provocative and amazingly, for much of its running time, it is weirdly funny.

There are moments that feel comical, some horrific, and some downright inspiring but the tonal shifts hardly matter as the end results come to a film that's perfect for this time.

Even the colour of this film has a bleak, grey and washed-out feel. But the characters and plot are believable, beaten down by years of struggle to survive after an apocalypse the details of which seem unimportant now. The challenge is for the group to keep going through the bitter the competition for food in an environment where nothing seems to grow. Only those that started out as the fittest are left now and even amongst these survivors one looks like he might have pneumonia. In these circumstances and in unrelenting rain, they decide to risk a stop at an isolated farm house despite deep, and, as it turns out, well-founded, misgivings about whether it's going to be safe. The acting throughout is strong and believable and despite the film's low budget, they kept back enough cash for copious amounts of blood which flows pretty freely as the action intensifies.I noticed minor flaws, but very unimportant set against the strongly drawn characters and the relationships between the members of the group - friendship, trust and mistrust. Certainly not a feel-good movie, but one to make you think. Worth watching.

"The Day" started out very promising for me, but within a half hour unexpectedly turned a different direction. Which for some of you may actually be a plus but I'm old school. It is filmed in the greys of a post apocalyptic ravaged world with most of the movie set in an old farm house. The protagonists are not zombies, or aliens, or some lethal mutant virus....or even just survival of a wasted world and that's where it disappointed me. Yet I think most people into apocalyptic movies will like this movie a lot...(Especially If you like quite a bit of kickass action and blood and guts) For a movie obviously on a budget it's all VERY well done. The directing and acting is excellent. There are lots of scenes done at night, a bit hard to follow and a few editing slips, but the vast majority of this movie is HUGE leaps and bounds, in every aspect, above most smaller and lower budget productions in the post apocalyptic genre. So if the subject matter interests you, I have no doubt you should give this movie a try.

The Day is quite impressive. From its drained color to its standoff in the house the film creates its own space in a post-apocalyptic world that seems like another story from same future as The Road. (No animals, dead flora, cannibals.) All of the actors give strong performances but Ashley Bell is a real standout in a performance even better than The Last Exorcist films. She is an actress that creeps up on you... literally both in this film and in the Last Exorcist she seems mousy, almost dismissible to begin with. Then she does something and you can't take your eyes off of her. I don't think she's everyone's cup of tea. But by the time she walks off into the distance at the end she is a dark samurai in the New Dark Age. I, for one, wanted to see where she would go next and whether she could fully recover her humanity. The Day seemed like introduction to her story.

This movie is pretty much a series of nonsensical garbage that the film never even makes an attempt to justify or explain. If you think about the film for more than a minute then you realize that nearly nothing about it made any sense. First off how did the little girl move more quickly and stealthily than a Navy Seal? Second how are there already cannibals so soon after this movies apocalypse happening? Doesn't seem that food is too rare in this film. The only reason the heroes are hungry and low on food is because they are forced to move around so much that they cant stay and plant crops though they have the seeds to do so. Third this movie makes no attempt to explain why their are cannibals and what happened to the world to make it "post apocalyptic". Also why is the former cannibal chick wearing a short enough dress where a windy day could blow her dress up enough for everyone to see her mark. This film is basically just a bad excuse to show lots of violence and panty shots. This film seriously blows.
