The plot isn't so bad, but the pace of storytelling is too slow which makes people bored. Certain moments are so obvious and unnecessary for the main plot. I would've fast-forwarded those moments if it was an online streaming. The ending looks like implying a sequel, not sure if this movie will get one

There is definitely an excellent idea hidden in the background of the film. Unfortunately, it's difficult to find it.

as far as i see this project black jack 1998 got failure written all over it there are several reasons for it including from the start the bad story, weird characters, budget issues & most of all it was made for TV this is actually the pilot episode which was waiting to get picked up by channels as a TV series but it failed since we are talking about john woo he does his best but the guy is a film director not a TV soap opera one he also produced it & directed this he knew it would not be a success like his film ventures but still this is worth watching if you like Dolph Lundgren or if you are a fan of legendary director sir john woo.there is very little amount of action here with the bikes & all that plus there is more dialogs then fighting people expect something when you have label of master of action with you this what happened with john woo so far out of all his films the mission impossible 2 is a mess of editing it proves Hollywood never appreciated the guy the paramount needs to release an uncut version of the film also i have no doubt about it that this movie black jack got edited too i just don't get the censors, critical reception & the phobia of American film Association with Rated R films why they are so afraid to release full versions with long runtime this phobia murders a pure cinematic experience.the plot:Jack Devlin is a army guy who protects VIP persons when they are in danger first he saves Casey a casino owners daughter then second he tries to protect cinder James a model from her crazy ex husband jack is a dangerous guy but he has a problem he cant see through white stuff.as for the cast there is no one to look except Kam Heskin & Dolph Lundgren he just looks awesome here i have to say i am a fan that's why i picked this to watch.overall Black Jack 1998 is a wasted effort but if you like to see some good direction from john woo do watch this otherwise Skipp it my rating is 3/10.

... that even if I gave this movie a score of 1, I could as easily give it a 10. It's perfect entertainment with good friends and booze. It's so unbelievably bad in every way imagineable that it becomes almost too good to be true; you know those movies, right? They're so bad that they're actually good. This is one of those, crossing the line but staying perhaps a bit too close to it to really stick out. Why? Because as a fan of HK action flicks, this carries all the telltale signs (not a big surprise considering the director and the low budget. In fact, if all the actors were Asian, this would be a perfect example of the typical HK gunsmoked action flick.

John Woo's "Blackjack" does have a good theme within it that he uses to showcase the action and plot of this film. That theme is that people must learn to fight the demon's inside them. This theme is shown through the bad guy and the good guy, who are each fighting demon's within himself. One chooses to let it run his life while the other fight's it as he tries to protect people. On first viewing you might not see that this is a good, if not spectacular John Woo movie, but it is worth a few viewings. Plus, the action is pretty good as well. Dolph Lundgren is one of those actors who does his best when he let's his body movements do the acting while keeping his voice somewhat silent. He does some of his best work in this film.

Dolph Lundgren plays Jack Devlin a mercenary suffering from the fear of the color white, who must protect a supermodel (Kam Heskin) from a skilled assassin who is her ex-husband (Phillip Mackenzie) John Woo certainly knows how to do pile on some excellent actionscenes, however the story is far too slow and ridiculous to be taken seriously. Not a bad effort (especially considering it's a TV movie) but John Woo can do better, although surprisingly hasn't lately with suckfests as Windtalkers and M.I.2.
