Let's be realistic.
The performances transcend the film's tropes, grounding it in characters that feel more complete than this subgenre often produces.
I gave this film a 9 out of 10, because it was exactly what I expected it to be.
Strong acting helps the film overcome an uncertain premise and create characters that hold our attention absolutely.
This Steven Seagal film is a perfect medicine for your insomnia! Just like any other of his films from 2000s. Just play this and voilà! Straight to sleep DVD! No problem. Seagal plays a freelance agent who gets screwed because of a package that is of high interest of mob, politics, blah blah... The film is nothing but walking, or driving around, with few boring fighting scenes... Seagal is really slow, monotone... he is not interesting anymore. Please, man, go retire while you still can, go and start an Aikido dojo in LA, or where ever, I think that's for the best. I really love Seagal's films, but at some point you need to stop. I don't understand, why insisting on continuing to work on some dumb movies that nobody wants to watch. There's nothing to say about this film, I mean what can you say about C film, straight to DVD feature. It's boring, makes you feel dizzy and finally BUMP! Sleeping...
I liked the leading actor in Under Siege, and then a couple more film made me like him a little bit more, I only decided to watch this one because I was interested to know why the critics give it such a low rating. Basically freelance agent and "foreigner" Jonathan Cold (Steven Seagal) is hired to deliver a mysterious package which he cannot know the contents of, Alexander Marquee (Philip Dunbar) wants him to take from France to Germany. The contents of the package may not seem to be known by the one delivering it, or even the man wanting it delivered, but many political corruption is seeing murders and assassins trying to stop it arriving at its destination. When the package is opened it turns out to be a "black box" flight recorder from an aircraft that was suspiciously taken down, and Jerome Van Aken (Harry Van Gorkum) is the one who wants to get his hands on it, but of course Cold is one step ahead of the villains. Also starring Anna-Louise Plowman as Meredith Van Aken, Max Ryan as Dunoir, Jeffrey Pierce as Sean Cold and Sherman Augustus as Mr. Mimms. Seagal is not as cool looking as he used to and he is almost completely blank throughout this film, but it is not just him that is the problem, the action sequences aren't exciting, the chase sequences are almost pointless, and the story is far to patchy and stupid to really care about, overall it is a dreadful action adventure. Poor!
i can't say i was really impressed with this Steven Seagal offering.i guess it was passably entertaining.i wasn't completely bored out of my skull.it's supposed to be an action/thriller,which is great.there's just one minor problem.there isn't a lot of action, and it's even less thrilling.really it's basically a genre movie.for me,this is the first time i have noticed Seagal use a stand in for some of his dialogue scenes. sometimes his character is shown in shadow or from behind or from a distance and it's clearly Seagal's stand in who also does some of the dialogue.this actually doesn't bother me,because to be honest,i thought the double actually had a better voice than Seagal does.anyway, that may have been the best part of the movie for me.anyway,i've seen worse movies.for me,The Foreigner is a 5/10
I believe Cockpuncher to be the best piece of work that has come out of the Steven Seagal factory in a long time. This movie was the first one I have seen since that fine film preview. My point? He is done. Every movie is the same. Maybe he will be good in Machete because he won't be the star. We can only hope.P.S. Thanks for speaking to UCSB when I went to college. It was an amazing speech. You really influenced some people out there. So I have to write ten lines about this movie? Umm....I like the smoker guy who killed a bunch of fools. Whenever anyone smells menthol's LOOK OUT. Because there could be a killer with a silenced glock (and another loud one) who wants to kill you.Is that ten?
