Great example of an old-fashioned, pure-at-heart escapist event movie that doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not and has boat loads of fun being its own ludicrous self.

I kept this quiet for a while. But I feel there are way too many serious gritty angry films that are plaguing the auditoriums in many big theaters. What happened to the fantasy? The Wisdom? The Light nature of films that happened back in the day? Before the gritty realism drama movies came along, we had movies like Man of The House. Critically panned and a flop at the box office, it is highly underrated. This is a good example of movies with a light heart before all these dang furious movies came out in the 10's. Plot? Texas Ranger Roland Sharp tries to protect Rebellious Teenage Cheerleaders at a University after they witness the murder of a man. At first they don't get along and Sharp sets rules in the house they live in. But soon enough they find themselves liking this person. But are they really safe with him? When I was first watching it, I was like "Well, These cheerleaders are going to be super dumb." They kind of made them dumb in the beginning! But they actually turned out to be smart realistic teenage cheerleaders. That made me surprised. I really enjoyed the company of these five cheerleaders and they made me laugh.Tommy Lee Jones is also awesome in this movie too! He has some really funny stuff to do in the movie including a scene with handcuffs! I actually do like this film a lot because not only is it smart in most cases, but it has a really good script, a great cast and some really funny scenes! Only complaint I have though is that it is a bit bloody in some places even though it's a PG-13. But this film was really well made! I wish more films were like this now. But I guess we will have to settle with our humorous superhero films for now.89/100 B+

Tommy Lee Jones is a dry, grouchy, by-the-book Texas Ranger as Sgt. Roland Sharp. He moves into a house with five active girls who are Texas Longhorns Cheerleaders that happen to be murder witnesses, resulting in them being placed in protective custody. Most of the jokes revolve around Jones' effective dry humor and the problems he has as a father seeing young women close to his daughter's age wearing tight fitting navel-baring clothes and the clash of generational values. Eventually they all come to an understanding and the girls look to him as an unconventional paternal figure. There's also a side romance between Jones' character and an English literature professor played by Anne Archer which seems to have been thrown into the story as an afterthought. It's not the best movie but is worth one watch for Tommy Lee Jones' performance alone. 6 out of 10.

answer-they all move faster than this movie.man, this thing is a real coma inducing yawner.the rating is higher than i think it should be(5.3/10).if you're expecting to laugh, you can forget about it.this movie has very little going for it.i can only come up with two positives.one is Anne Archer, who is still a stunner at age 57 in 2005,when this movie was released.the other positive is that there were a couple good songs.other than that,it's painful experience and a loss of 100 minutes of life, which will not come back.i didn't think this would be a great movie, but i thought it might be decent.i found it hard to actually finish watching, but i stuck with it.hopefully i can convince others not to waste their precious time.for me, "Man of the House" is a 3/10

The Texas Ranger Roland Sharp needs to protect a group of cheerleaders who are the only witnesses to the murder of a man, who is a key figure in the prosecution of a drug king. Sharp will need to live with the girls to his total undercover and to take care of them as well.''Man of the House'' is a silly movie. It is not bad, but for sure it is not an outstanding comedy: I didn't laugh very much, but the movie has nice and positive messages for all the characters. It's that kind of movie that having an option, you would watch something else, but if you don't, it's not going to totally waste your time, I would say. The cheerleaders, most of them stupid and only wanting to go out and date, annoyed me sometimes, with the exception of one of them that is tough and mature ( I forgot her name). But even them learn to be better persons in the movie. By the way, I love Tommy Lee Jones in tough characters! ( Who remembers him in MIB?)
