Did you people see the same film I saw?
brilliant actors, brilliant editing
A brilliant film that helped define a genre
By the time the dramatic fireworks start popping off, each one feels earned.
Where to start. OK, acting, out of the box, i mean, outside of it. Excellent in all ways, and very very underrated. I cannot say how this film is good really, but i can say there are no dull moments, no extreme violence scenes, except that one scene, and it is not violent really, just potentially so, not any swearing, none of the usual rubbish, this is a fairly deep film, looking at ourselves. The rating again, too low, how?, i am confused how someone can rate this so low, maybe the subject matter was too close to home, or too far from their reality, because this film does have the element of being real, and rightly so, this being more or less true events....
This film would have been great if novice writer/producer/director Michael Carney didn't hack the screenplay and knew how to direct the scenes properly. The pace was dragged out too long and either the editing was just as bad or the screenplay was that poor. The acting could have been better (maybe also the directors fault for not directing his cast properly?), especially from Greg Kinnear, but Djimon Hounsou stole the show with his outstanding performance. This film lost its potential with all these flaws and it missed the mark for me. Would I recommend it? Yes, it's a great and inspirational true story. Would I see it again? Nope. A generous 7/10 from me
A wealthy family helps a homeless black man. Wealthy family's father is a bigot. Hours and hours of uninspired dialogue steal away time you could have spent doing anything else.
Very refreshing and heart warming movie suitable for the whole family. When everything is said and done what matters most is how we relate to and treat other human beings. Amongst all the trivial shallow movies being mass produced today there has been a wonderful surge of movies with soul and spirit.
