Holy Motors (2012)
We follow 24 hours in the life of a being moving from life to life like a cold and solitary assassin moving from hit to hit. In each of these interwoven lives, the being possesses an entirely distinct identity: sometimes a man, sometimes a woman, sometimes youthful, sometimes old. By turns murderer, beggar, company chairman, monstrous creature, worker, family man.

One of the best films i have seen
A film with more than the usual spoiler issues. Talking about it in any detail feels akin to handing you a gift-wrapped present and saying, "I hope you like it -- It's a thriller about a diabolical secret experiment."
It is an exhilarating, distressing, funny and profound film, with one of the more memorable film scores in years,
While it is a pity that the story wasn't told with more visual finesse, this is trivial compared to our real-world problems. It takes a good movie to put that into perspective.
I always had this goofy thought while walking outside and observing various people - all those weird homeless guys talking to themselves, people interacting with each other, fights, road rages, intense argues, random conversations etc are enjoyable for me; those guys are doing some solid acting! I like to think that everyone is actually acting, and it's not real. Then, this movie appeared to confirm my theory. What a pleasant surprise this movie was! An alternate reality where actors are using a whole city as a stage (and maybe the whole world?) and where reality mixes with fiction? Yes please! Of course, it's a 100% interpretable movie, so there can be many debates. I have to admit it though; this movie is screaming "let's win the Cannes Film Festival!" I don't like to use the word "pretentious", but this can enter that category; sometimes things get a little forced, but not without a purpose; so this is a good pretentious movie. Also, Denis Lavant was awesome here. If Lynch was a Frenchmen, he would probably release this movie.
WITHOYT A REALLY PLOT!!!!!OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Other than the great acting and possibly exposure of a method actor's day, Holy Motors explains nothing of it's plot and actions of the characters. You have to be so pretentious to say this is a good movie and it is so abstract that it is art. Artists and entertainers produce arts and somehow expects people watch or see them without understanding it. The best part is we have pretentious critiques and audiences who feed this potential Schizophrenic community. They are pretty much the same as a religious community.
I have never written a review of a film before, nor have I felt compelled to. But after my friend insisted I watch the film and dismissing my appeals to change to anything else from about 10 minutes in I felt I must. This film is awful. It's actually hard for me to call it a film, after all, you wouldn't squeeze nine 10 minute youtube videos into one 90 video and call it a film, and this brings me to the main criticism of the film. There is no plot. There is no story to tell or any story telling. Most stories have a beginning, a middle and an end. Some mix up the order, e.g. Memento. But aside from being a man driven around in a limo acting out these bizarre commissions, there is absolutely no thread linking each commission, no character development, no emotion. I felt no attachment to any of the characters present. As a result, what ensues is a feature length exhibition of unrelated sketches by an actor playing an actor that may as well be a Youtube compilation video. As you might imagine, with no story to follow, one gets bored pretty quickly. What doesn't help the boredom is that most of the scenes are deliberately weird ('surrealist' if you fancy yourself too pretentious to call a turd a turd). While some people just love to see meaning that isn't there, others will just find it frustrating and tedious.I can only say that I came to the conclusion perhaps it was a metaphor for how in life we take on many faces ourselves and perhaps there is no point to it, but it doesn't account for the complete lack of a story. And so what we are left with is a strange film, that offers no plot, and the audience is just left wondering what in the world is going on (and if you're like me, 'is there any way I can get my life back?'). In fact, the reason I came to write this review is because I wanted to see what sense, if any, others made of the film. To see the number of positive reviews is surprising but then, I have not placed any stock in critic reviews for some time.To give credit where it's due, the acting was good especially from the lead, though the supporting cast is weaker. The make up is good and the sound track is fitting. I don't care for the grimy, urban setting but since that is more a question of taste, I don't hold it against the film.
