There is, somehow, an interesting story here, as well as some good acting. There are also some good scenes

A terrific literary drama and character piece that shows how the process of creating art can be seen differently by those doing it and those looking at it from the outside.

This has been on my list for a while. I was happy I was finally able to check it out when I started my Shudder subscription. This movie is amazing. The opening scene, the city shots in New York, the shark vs zombie fight scene and the chaos when you get down to the Caribbean. The practical effects are incredible and the suspense /terror during the Zombie scenes are excellent. I can't believe this is a horror movie. It honestly feels like a big budget uncut James Bond movie. The island/Caribbean feel reminds of Dr. No. It's not until a zombie pushes a woman's head through a broken wooden shard that you remember you are watching a Horror movie again.

I had forgotten just how solid a piece of work this is. After an elegiac opening in the New York harbour and a drifting, seemingly innocent yacht (despite the now ominous view of the twin towers) things are about to kick off most dramatically. Watching on Blu-ray, when my previous viewing was on VHS the difference in picture quality was bound to be noticeable but I was a little anxious that the special effects might not look as realistic. Worry not, absolutely astonishing from the early US appearance through the amazing graveyard scenes as the undead emerge from below the surface to the later crowded scenes of mayhem. That the creatures are not all the same is most commendable and helps maintain the horror level. The individual scenes of extreme violence are also beautifully achieved and wincingly effective. I must also mention the underwater scenes prior to all this which in their own way are just as remarkable. The zombie fighting with the shark quite brilliant and I feel I should just also mention how delectable the young Auretta Gay is in these scenes too. Wonderful and meticulous film making and to achieve so much in an area of film, even now, so despised is to be much praised.

Listen: this is NOT by any means a perfect movie, as a matter of fact it's severely flawed. The characters are mostly pretty bland and never develop, some of the banter towards the beginning is more cringe worthy than funny, and the overall pacing and structure are quite off; however, that being said, "Zombie" is, simply put, a damn good time at the movies! Regardless of flaws, this film has enough entertainment and shock value to be thoroughly enjoyable, particularly in its second half in which things go off the rails. There are moments that made me feel incredibly tense, others made me squirm in disgust, others made me laugh, and many made me marvel at the wonderful gore effects and camera work. And my reaction to the very ending was sort of an awkward (but great nonetheless) mix of the aforementioned emotional responses; it is clear that the final shots have a tongue in cheek quality to them, but they are also haunting in a bizarre sense, and this feeling is VERY much appropriate as a closer to a movie that is genuinely and relentlessly strange and goofy, but still unconventionally magic and awfully horrific!

I have seen this movie a few times but this was the first time I saw it on DVD, which I got for just 75p , I could not say no to that.I watched this early today and I was clued to the screen , the movie flowed really well.I actually like the zombies as they were actually kind of scary looking. The make up effects in this was outstanding and really like how they Came back from the dead, very slowly, which I found very creepy. There were some great gory moments, there is one scene that you will never forget as its now known for one of the best horror deaths of all time. That death scene will make you look away from the scene and hide behind your hands. The acting in this movie was great and the ending of the movie was The icing on the cake.
