After playing with our expectations, this turns out to be a very different sort of film.

Desperately trying to own a fabled flat in a high-rise apartment in Hong Kong, a woman begins a deadly rampage against those that try to keep it from her and try to make her fantasy come true of living in the building. This ended up being quite a genuinely enjoyable effort with a lot to like about it. Supposedly a horror-comedy but frankly none of the scenes here were funny and it's mostly played straight anyway, making the labeling even more puzzling especially during the last half where it feels more like a drama with the subplot about the dying family member and the care given, which is mixed in with the back-story about a troubled childhood and the struggles between them, which makes it feel all the more like a true horror instead of a mixture. The stalking scenes in the rampages are a lot of a fun anyway, really making for some great gore set-ups, a series of bloody murders and a lot of action within to make for some real highlight moments, especially at the stoner's loft where there's a huge rampage against the inhabitants which is just a total blast. The motive for the rampage is somewhat weak and the finale is a little tame, but it's still a lot of fun when it gets down to what it wants to do.Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language, Graphic Violence, Nudity, several sex scenes and drug use.

A second viewing of this slasher / drama. The combination of the two elements aforementioned still don't work perfectly to my taste, but I enjoyed it more than the first time. It helped that the storyline, with all its shifting back and forth in time, became clearer to me this time, and thusly had a greater impact.Josie Ho is a fine actress and knows how to underplay a definite psycho. The background of her character is worked out well, based on true facts of the practice of rich people forcing out home owners in Hong Kong in the '80s. The moment when she lets her grandfather die, partly because he betrayed her trust, is a pivotal moment to somehow stay on her side as a viewer - although it should not be missed that there is a lot of awfully dark humour in here, as well. And that humour makes it so that the gore (very well worked out, but not easy to stomach - pun intended?) has its rightful place here, too. Altogether, this is a weird one, and it will certainly not be for everyone. It may never be a favorite of mine, either, but the ingredients are separately very effective in any case. From 6 to 7 out of 10.

A young Hong Kong woman has her heart set on an apartment with a sea view. As various obstacles to the purchase arise she reacts by committing a series of savage murders. As you do.This shockingly violent slasher movie features a terrific central performance from the rather lovely Josie Ho. The satirical element which the film undoubtedly contains was rather lost on me (I'm not very up on the Hong Kong property market), but the film is very well made - quite a lot better than the majority of Western slasher flicks: it is a handsome film.If you are a fan of violent and gory films, you are unlikely to see many which are better than this one.

I must say I discovered this film on Netflix in Canada. I can't believe how great this film looks and feels. I totally love the girl in this film. She has dire reasons for her killing of snotty little rich people, that now reside where she use to live. She does what has to be done against corporate greed, then she takes matters into her own hands in order to fulfil a promise. This woman will do anything to get the job done. We see scenes from her past that make us feel like she has the right to do what she has too, in order to protect her promise. It also gives us a glimpse for us in living North America on how crowded these cities have become. I find it's an in depth story about the overpopulation of the world today, and gives us a definite feeling that we are running out of room and energy resources to cover the population of today. This film seems to deliver the feeling that this is not a problem of locale, but a global problem. It's a very political thriller filled with indirect underlying statements. I find this film to be bold, in explaining the problems with too many people living on this planet. It gives us a view of a not so distant future. In turn this film delivers us great quality, imagination, and most importantly gore with a great well played out story line. I for one don't mind reading subtitles, especially when it comes to a stellar film such as this. I'm really happy I've watched this film. I'm not looking forward to an Americanized remake, for what do the Hollywood execs know about this problem that Japan and other countries like it face when dealing with mass amounts of population. Unless they base the film with actors from those countries, then I may watch it, but if it's set in New York city or another American city like it, I think that film will lose it's perfection. I think this film should be rated highly if your into a good story, future circumstances of population overages and so forth. A definite watch if your especially looking for something to sink your teeth into when it comes to malicious gore. Thanks for readingJeffrey J Turner Sarnia Ontario Canada
