SERIOUSLY. This is what the crap Hollywood still puts out?
It's the kind of movie you'll want to see a second time with someone who hasn't seen it yet, to remember what it was like to watch it for the first time.
It really made me laugh, but for some moments I was tearing up because I could relate so much.
Blistering performances.
it's said that they decided to delivery a 2000s teenager movie with it's worst in it. were are all the good gore and jokes? the actor that replaced the Djinn is real bad. we just continue to watch this hoping that the end it's going to be, at least, nice. and the other actors don't help in it. actually, the Djinn isn't the central character of the movie. they changed everything that was good and replaced for some "Scream" s#it version.
The Wishmaster series continues its descent into the depths of direct to video hell, as the movies got cheaper and less fun.The premise of this movie is that the Gem containing the Djinn is now found in cheap box instead of a nice statue of Ahura-Mazda. Also lost in the budget cutting was Andrew Divoff, the guy who gave the Wishmaster all his menace in the previous two films. In this one, the Wishmaster is released by yet another troubled hot chick. (Seriously, I guess if a guy ever released the Wishmaster, the movie would be over in ten minutes after he wished for a keg, a million bucks and some hot babes!) While he is killing time, the new Wishmaster clumsily bullies his victims into making foolish wishes. (Again, Divoff's version was much more sinister in his manipulations.) I'm guessing they filmed this on a real college campus, because they have a lot of footage of people running about doing that setting. The plot also involves invoking the Archangel Michael to help defeat the Wishmaster by bringing a sword that can kill it. Or something. Just tricking it with a cleverly worded third wish wasn't going to cut it anymore.
Wishmaster 3: Beyond the Gates of Hell (2001) ** (out of 4) The third film in the series has the evil Djinn (John Novak) taking over the body of a college professor (Jason Connery) hoping that he can force one of his students (A.J. Cook) into making three wishes, which will cause the gates of hell to open up on Earth. It appears that fans of the series really, really hate this movie but since I'm not a fan then perhaps that's why I didn't mind this film too much. With that said, there's no doubt that this isn't a good movie by any stretch of the imagination but I thought it was entertaining enough if you have nothing better to do and want to watch some gory kills. One good thing the film did have going for it is that we got real special effects and not just a bunch of fake looking CGI, which is something that the majority of the horror films from this era had switched over to. The gore effects aren't going to remind anyone of the work of Tom Savini but I thought they were good enough and at least the director knew to deliver the gore in a film like this. We even get a woman being attacked by rats and perhaps the highlight of the film is a scene where a woman wishes that she was skinny so the Djinn basically makes her puke up her insides. This scene isn't nearly as effective as the one in Lucio Fulci's CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD but it's still pretty good on its own. Another thing I liked about the movie was the performance of Cook who I thought was very cute in the role but she also turned in a good performance. Sure, there's nothing Oscar-worthy here and she's not given too much to do but for the third film in a bad horror series I thought she delivered the goods and more. Novak is good as the evil guy and even his look is quite good. WISHMASTER 3 still suffers from going on way too long and there are simply too many spots where there's just nothing interesting happening. Still, as far as horror films goes, there are much worse out there than this one.
The film was shaky, the script trite and monotonous, everything seemed quite low-budget, and obviously. But, the actors did their best with what they had to work with, so I give the film credit for that. The Wishmaster series isn't one of my favorite, but I enjoy watching it from time to time, and you just can't get through the whole thing without the third part (not storyline-wise, because then this statement would be a lie, as the Wishmaster series is pretty much a repetition of a story, but with each story somewhat varied from the last). That plus the rather colorful scenes make the movie, in my opinion, a 4. I wouldn't go out and buy it, but it's definitely watch-worthy if it happens to be on SciFi randomly. I like Angel's directing, but the movie was low budget, and a little too obvious.
