I saw this movie on the Netflix index with a fairly high rating so I read the synopsis. After reading it and seeing a trailer I wasn't moved. Eventually, driven by boredom, I watched it and I'm so glad I did."Trollhunter" is a found footage film (which is one of the reasons I was reluctant to watch) and it is great. The title tells you all you need to know. Some college students catch up with a trollhunter during one of his hunts and they discover the truth. As they tag along with him they find out that trolls come in all shapes and sizes.Part of the lure of this movie is that the troll topic is still somewhat untouched. There were some awful troll movies before this which may make some apprehensive about watching this movie. If you are one such wary viewer, don't be. This movie is significantly better than Troll or Troll 2. The details about the trolls was well thought out. The action was the correct dose and the special effects were very nicely done.If you've already seen vampires, werewolves, mummies, and zombies, why not give trolls a chance?

I began this year by checking out a film that I didn't really like the first time I watched it. In fact, to be honest, I thought it was so lame that I didn't even finish it. However, after continuing to hear nothing but good things about it after all these years I decided I should give it another chance. This time I entered in with a more open mind, but this film still didn't impress me as much as I feel it should. Admittedly, I still have an incredibly hard time suspending my disbelief long enough to entertain that thought that trolls can exist. For me, this concept is not really scary and cannot really be taken seriously. That being said, this isn't a bad film. The effects are absolutely amazing for a low-budget picture. The CGI here puts it's American counterparts to shame. This is some of the best, most convincing CGI I've seen since Jurassic Park. And even though I find it somewhat cheesy, the concept of "Trollhunting" is original and fascinating. There's also a few scenes that are actually pretty suspenseful and the film closes out on a nice, aptly tongue-in-cheek moment. This isn't a great film, in my opinion, but it's an original, worthwhile endeavor that warrants a watch.

I honestly did not know which angle this movie was coming from and I can't believe it garnered a Blu-ray release. I always get annoyed at sentences like "footage has been examined by experts and found to be authentic" so I guess the movie started on a bad note. I gathered after a short time this was a spoof but if it was comedy it gave very few laughs (OK I did laugh at the troll eating Ned Kelly). Is using flawed science comedy? Didn't work for me. What ever angle this movie was presenting it didn't float my boat. Still I give it 3 stars for: A: Interesting CGI of trolls B: The cute blonde camera girl C: This movie is 99% filming of driving in cars, people running through forests, talking in camper trailers etc. Add a few dollars for some slime and a not so real looking dead bear and this movie was really done on the cheap so kudos to the producers for keeping to a low (and I mean low) budget.

This film was amazingly done. The story, the acting, the CGI, everything. Even if you do not like foreign films or are turned off by having to read the subtitles, the beauty of the Norwegian landscape is worth every minute. I do not know much about Norwegian culture, but troll lore I know seems to be done very well. The story is fantastic, and I can relate to government cover ups. Here in the Midwest our department of natural resources tries to convince people Cougars do not exist, although they were caught reintroducing them years ago, and hundreds of trail cam pictures. The CGI work of the trolls is fantastic, but in some ways kind of wished the trolls to be smarter and more social. If you like fantasy films, definitely watch this film!
