There are moments in this movie where the great movie it could've been peek out... They're fleeting, here, but they're worth savoring, and they happen often enough to make it worth your while.

Pete Newmans (Johnny Simmons) has a clever name for the film. He is a successful psychologist/ sex therapist/ author who doesn't have sex. We discover the reason why is he hasn't gone through puberty. His condition is cured and he transforms all at once, as we see a grown man act like a teen. He has a thing for Michelle (Brittany Snow) the girl next door, but suddenly has hormone problems and says things like a jealous teen.I didn't find the film very amusing. It is a low impact teen sex comedy. Good support cast.Guide: F-word and nudity.

This movie was smart and funny. The cast is spectacular with Johnny Simmons, a brilliant young actor who knocked it out of the park in his last movie "Dreamland", J.K. Simmons, an academy award winner, the lead of the wonderful "The Big Sick", and many more. Watched it with a couple of other people and they couldn't stop laughing. It's funny but it is also well written and acted with a message that is uplifting. I am a psychologist, and I thought that the movie did an excellent job with the theme of sex and understanding the development of your relationship to your sexuality at the same time as being wildly entertaining. In short, this is a superb movie that is brilliantly acted, directed and written.

The Late Bloomer made me laugh out loud on more than one occasion. Maybe that's because I'm spectacularly childish being as all the humour was of the awkward sexual kind. I don't care, I loved it! I'm surprised by the negative reviews... Maybe I just have a penchant for pre-pubescent 30 year old's because I actually found myself having a crush on Johnny Simmons which made his angsty teenage strops particularly amusing to me. Loved his parents characters, loved his two sidekicks. Didn't find his love interest particularly appealing. But this is a comedy and to me it totally served it's purpose and kept me entertained and amused throughout.

If you are in favor of restoring the patriarchy I highly recommend this movie. If you are afraid to be yourself or be different than boy/girl stereotypes, please watch this movie! If confident women like Beyonce or Emma Watson scare the living day lights out of you, please watch this. Your lack of confidence will be restored by the horrible jokes some middle-aged white man I never heard of - Kevin Pollak- thought would be funny when he directed this movie. He attempts to bring back the dying sexism he must have grown up with in the 1950s to modern culture. He must have had a horrible experience in therapy too or just be incredibly ignorant - and makes fun of people with sexual addictions and mental health issues within the first 5 seconds of the movie. Movie received a good rating on Netflix - 2 stars. It actually should have a 0 (if that's even possible). Has an immature mentality and as a result - is not put together well. The point of the movie is obvious, but horribly written - unfortunately driving home the ignorance and stupidity of the director. Nothing smart about this production. Probably why I never heard of the director.
