Demi Moore in Half Light provides a convincing picture of how difficult it is to get over the death of a loved one. First of all the scenery - sea side - lighthouse of Scotland is perfect. The cottage she goes to would be great to stay at while you recuperate from whatever - if it weren't for the ghosts. This is one of the few films which actually gave me chills. Even the fairly predictable scenes with her dead son were well done and creepy. A lot is done with shadows, music and the overall atmosphere of the cottage - the sea side town - and the lighthouse. There is a minor attempt at portraying her as a crazy writer (Jack Nicholson in "The Shining") and the portrayal of the strange events surrounding her make us wonder - has she lost it? - or there ghosts? (I, of course was pulling for the ghosts.)The ending is a little Hollywood - I would have preferred something more tragic, but it was OK. My rating of an 8 is based on the creeps - spooky ambiance - and the scenery.Worth your while. DonB

As a devout fan of the Horror genre, one of the more underrated and overlooked genres in Hollywood, it always makes me very happy to see a celebrity superstar playing in one! I really loved Harrison Ford's "What Lies Beneath" and was pretty disappointed with Kevin Costner's "The New Daughter", and now I had the chance to watch Demi Moore in Half Light. The build up and background story were both great, though seemed unoriginal... I mean, I love those Horror/Thriller films where hallucinations and reality get mixed up and the audience has to keep guessing, but we've seen too many of those by now... then a twist happens, and then another, and by the time the film nears its ending you no longer know what to think! I thought I had everything figured out half way through it, and boy was I wrong! I really like it when films manage to fool me.The acting was great, the cinematography was just right, and the music featured some very nice piano instrumentals along with Celtic tunes. But the screenplay and story were absolutely the best part! The film also has some sad drama and romance, making it more accessible to different people. I honestly enjoyed every minute! All in all? The film might no be perfect, I personally would have liked it more had it had less drama and more mystery/horror/thriller motives, but as it is it's a great film, not too scary but scary enough, and very smart! I'd highly recommend it, especially to couples!

it is beautiful, touching and impressive. recreation of atmosphere, fragile connection between death and life, delicate love story and nice performance of Demi Moore are good points. only problem - mixture between Gothic and crime, a story with too many ornaments, not really credible. but the final taste is warm. the final image, like the horses on beach or shell in sand are end of a circle out of ordinary recipes. because the key is touching poetry of this movie about past error, expectation and need of real answer to a long, heavy expectation. that is solution who makes it more than piece of a chain. but the power son remains. so, just a correct film. but not more.

Not much to say about Craig Rosenberg since he had not worked much before this movie as a director, or since this movie's release. His minor credits are public knowledge on the IMDb. The film is poorly edited and jumpy at times, there is also problems with the lighting and framing (which I thought might be on purpose, but I cannot see why so many shots are mis-framed). This film came along after Ms. Moore had not worked in several years, and whether that was by choice or not, the first film back probably did not give her many options. She is a fine actress and she does the best with what she had to work with. In fact, I cannot really see where any of the actors did not do their job and try to sell this film. The real problem behind this film is that it is just rehashed plots from different films. The ending is rushed and not thought out, neither is it set up by the end of the second act--which it should be with such a twist--which is a betrayal of the audience. In the end the fault is with the director and screenwriter, and like his screenplay "The Uninvited" this film is uninviting....
