Plenty to Like, Plenty to Dislike
A bit overrated, but still an amazing film
Fun premise, good actors, bad writing. This film seemed to have potential at the beginning but it quickly devolves into a trite action film. Ultimately it's very boring.
A movie that not only functions as a solid scarefest but a razor-sharp satire.
It took me 9 years to understand this movie. Recently read a summary on Wikipedia that gave me a piece of information that wasn't in the movie. Mitchell had to stow away for 10 years in his grandfathers ship in order to blow up Baals troupe and save the gate. Then he reappeared with all the "dead" cast for the ceremony. Was I supposed to guess that part? Anyway I have watched it many times and finally made sense of it. Loved it either way.
After watching the disappointing 'The Ark of Truth', I was very pleased they got back to basics with this movie.Very interesting time travel story. Lots of time travel stories end with the big reset button at the end, it was nice to see some thought put into this one and see the characters have to work to set things right.Fitting end to Stargate SG-1. Great action, some very nice character moments and it was nice to see the "whole" gang represented. The most important line in this movie, that sets this story apart from so many other time-travel movies is from the retired GEN Landry: "But you don't have the right! If you were to succeed, events in the lives of thousands, if not millions of people, would never have happened! (angry) My goodness, people! The arrogance of what you're asking us to help you do is mind-boggling!" Just when you think he'll come in and let SG-1 "fix" everything, he shows up - believe's them and stops them dead in their tracks. Then we see them foil Ball's plan, despite the efforts of the ever devious Quetesh. This movie depicts the very essence of Stargate SG-1.9 out of 10 for me.
I didn't go into watching this with any real expectations, like I did previously with The Arc of Truth. So once that was out of the way, I really liked this movie. The acting was a big step up, more like what the series was like. The jokes and lines that the main actors and the other actors delivered didn't fall flat. I was glad to see that, since I was so disappointed with that in the previous movie. It was a decent return to form. The cinematography was well shot and the soundtrack was pretty well done. Both of these things added to the overall feel of the movie. As for the plot, it was rather simple... but it was still good enough and kept me interested in watching the movie.I recommend this film over The Arc of Truth. It's worth the watch.
I found it completely entertaining. So much so that I will probably watch it again before the week is out! There was the "feel" of the show with the verbal interplay we have come to love from the characters, and with enough of the action and spectacle for a "big screen" feature. (Trying to keep the spoilers to a minimum) I loved the time travel angle, but most of all I loved seeing the team working together to solve the problem. The production company got some great assistance from our navy with the scenes near the beginning. I would love to see it in a theater!
