I didn’t really have many expectations going into the movie (good or bad), but I actually really enjoyed it. I really liked the characters and the banter between them.

Sultry bisexual journalist Emanuelle (the ever luscious Laura Gemser) travels with several friends to a dangerous Amazon jungle to track down the last existing cannibal tribe for a scoop. Naturally, everyone gets more than they bargained for when they find said tribe. Director/co-writer Joe D'Amato scrupulously covers all the essential pleasingly lurid bases: abundant gratuitous female nudity and raw carnality, masturbation, lesbianism, straight copulation, a boa constrictor attack, a fair amount of grisly (and amusingly shoddy) gore, a close call with quicksand, gross gut munching, and an exciting last reel rescue and escape from the vile flesh-eating primitives. Gemser's smoldering erotic presence positively burns up the screen; she bares her beautiful slender body as often as possible and performs her sex scenes with admirable uninhibited aplomb. Lovely buxom redhead Nieves Navarro as the horny Maggie McKenzie and cute slim blonde Monica Zanchi as sweet innocent Isabelle Wilkes are likewise very alluring and attractive. This movie further benefits from familiar B-flick faces Gabriele Tinti as hunky anthropologist Professor Mark Lester and Donald O'Brien (the titular mad medico in "Dr. Butcher M.D.") as macho hunter Donald McKenzie. D'Amato's vibrant and agile cinematography gives the picture an impressive slick look. Nico Fidenco's groovy throbbing score hits the right-on happening spot. The insanely funky theme song "Make Love on the Wing" totally smokes in no uncertain terms. Recommended viewing for devout fans of 70's exploitation cinema.

I once made the mistake of picking up a feral kitten and found razor sharp teeth buried in my hand. This movie opens with a feral girl (Dirce Funari) in a mental facility that bites off and eats a breast of a nurse. Emanuelle (Laura Gemser) is in the facility for a story and immediately starts to investigate. This results in a trip to the Amazon to look for a reportedly extinct cannibal tribe.I'll say one thing for Emanuelle, she is insatiable. She doesn't go one day without having sex. She also seems to have an eye for Isabelle (Mónica Zanchi - last seen with Emanuelle in Sister Emanuelle). Even a snake wants a piece of the action. But Emanuelle is not the only one getting action. They run into a hunting party in the jungle and the wife (Nieves Navarro) gets it on with the muscular native guide (Percy Hogan) in the bushes, while the husband (Donald O'Brien) spies on them. There is even a little nunspoitation as one of the party, Sister Angela (Annamaria Clementi), is the first one caught by the cannibals and gutted for dinner.Sex takes a backseat for the rest of the movies as the cannibals start gutting victims and having a feast. They save Isabelle for a special sacrifice after taking turns raping her. Emanuelle has a plan to save her and, as you might expect, it involves getting completely naked.Cinematography was good and Nico Fidenco's sometimes strange score really added to the atmosphere.

Director Joe D'amato is perhaps Italy's greatest director of exploitative sleaze and can always be relied upon to go the extra distance when it comes to delivering gratuitous sex and violence. It's not that surprising, therefore, to discover that Emanuelle And The Last Cannibals not only delivers the usual smörgåsbord of gory delights typical of the genre, but also offers endless soft-core humping, near the knuckle scenes of female self-gratification, and a smoking chimpanzee.Once again, D'amato's regular leading lady Laura Gemser plays sexually liberated reporter Emanuelle, who always gets her story, whatever the risks. This time, she discovers the existence of a cannibalistic tribe in the Amazon and puts together an expedition in order to explore the region. Inevitably, the team meet up with the local gut-munchers and suffer a variety of gruesome fates.Fans of hot, hot women and cheesy gore will have a blast with this film, since D'amato is a director who has never needed an excuse to get his actresses buck nekkid or ladle on the splatter. The first half of the film concentrates primarily on the characters' sexual shenanigans, with Emanuelle getting it on with a couple of lucky guys (with Gemser showing viewers her full frontal as usual), whilst sexy redhead Maggie (Nieves Navarro) and tasty blonde Isabelle (Mónica Zanchi) go even further: both women have fairly explicit scenes in which they enthusiastically explore their own jungles, and Navarro gets jiggy with her native guide. The latter half of the film is more about the violence, and features some nasty disembowellings (including the killing of hot nun, Sister Angela), a beheading, impalements, and a rather laughable moment in which a guy is cut in half with a length of string (achieved via a particularly dreadful optical effect).A wonderfully trashy ending sees Isabelle gang-banged by the cannibals and prepared for sacrifice, before being saved at the last minute by a totally starkers Emanuelle.

Anyone who knows anything about Italian cinema in the seventies will immediately know what to expect from this film, and despite a few bizarre surprises; Joe D'Amato pretty much delivers exactly that. I'm not a massive fan of the Italian 'Black Emanuelle' series; but this edition is a really good sex and horror show, and I wouldn't be surprised to find that it's the best of the bunch. The beautiful Laura Gemser takes her most memorable role as Emanuelle once again, in a tale that works from a rather silly plot line. The plot is clearly an excuse for D'Amato to make a movie with both Emanuelle and cannibals in it, and it follows journalist Emanuelle, who is working undercover in a mental hospital for some reason. While there, she witnesses a nurse have one of her breasts bit off, and soon after finds herself in the jungle on the trail of the girl's cannibal tribe; reputedly 'the last cannibals'. This doesn't make an ounce of sense when you think about it, but what it does do is allow the film to follow a 'jungle adventure' premise, and really Emanuelle and The Last Cannibals is just another dirty cannibal flick. The plotting sees Emanuelle, her boyfriend and a motley crew of other characters picked up along the way making their way into the jungle. This plot is padded out with all the common sex scenes, and putting this Emanuelle film ahead of the pack are some nasty, cannibal-style, blood and guts! Naturally, there are people eating intestines, castration, knives being inserted where knives shouldn't be inserted etc. The jungle setting provides a nice location change from the largely urban orgy that was Emanuelle in America, and D'Amato makes good of this setting with some nice scenes; some of which are grisly and gory, while others are hilarious. Like the bizarre monkey smoking scene. The acting is rather suspect, and this isn't helped by the atrocious dubbing. Laura Gemser looks really silly with the voice they've given her; but her naked body is always on hand to make you forget. The music goes a long way to ensuring that this is a complete European exploitation experience, as it's sexy in odd sort of way. The sex scenes aren't particularly erotic, but what they lack in quality is made up for in quantity. Overall, this film is well worth an hour and a half of any Euroshock fan's time!
