This is a tender, generous movie that likes its characters and presents them as real people, full of flaws and strengths.

This movie tries so hard to be funny, yet it falls flat every time. Just another example of recycled ideas repackaged with women in an attempt to appeal to a certain audience.

An actor takes a room in a bleak apartment building and tries to commit suicide. He is discovered and saved. Then a lot of mysterious things happen connected with ghosts, vampires, old crimes and new crimes. Then it ends with the revelation that it all took place in the actor's head while dying. A rather let down of a conclusion as the film has lots of atmosphere and great visual style but not as enjoyable as the old Mr. Vampire films to which it pays homage. I found the acting to be very good .Siu-Ho Chin as the actor, veteran Richard Ng as Tung, Fat Chung as a magician and Anthony Chan as the vampire hunter. Particularly good are the two main female actors; Kara Hui as the traumatised mother and Hee Ching Paw as nice Auntie Mui who gets more desperate and violent as the film unwinds but only because she doesn't want to be left alone.High on atmosphere then but a bit lacking in plot.

It's not a stereotype Hong Kong horror movie for the start. So if you are looking for those genre of movie, this is definitely not for you. It's been long since there's a representative movie for the Hong Kong movie industry. Rigor Mortis falls in that category, one which possibly can turn the tide of the industry, if the other Directors picks up the finer points of the movie and understand the new consumer pattern of the current generation of movie-goers, and stop mass producing those hilariously distasteful slap-stick movies.Watch it with an open mind, and the plot will suck you in before you knows it. There's a certain amount of gore and violence, not excessive though. Nicely shot scenes and generally tight plot.My only issue is the ending, but that said aside, it is much because I was expecting something more at the end. Otherwise, a great movie which I'll recommend for all Mr Vampire series fans.

If you understand and can appreciate the cultural differences between western horror movies and those of the J horror genre, then THIS ONES FOR YOU.The storyline is not the most original ever seen yet it works, the acting by the cast was very good(please do not compare them to Brad Pitt and Sandra Bullock),the cgi special effects was well done and the mood of the film projected the right vibe. If you followed the story and timeline of the film, it makes for a pretty satisfactory if not perfect ending . For fans of the J horror movie genre, this movie is definitely a cut above the majority of entries been cranked out. The first time director have started out with a movie that has set the bar high. For those not familiar with this particular genre, please look at it with a open mind and do not expect Friday THE 13TH.

I am a fan of Chinese Vampire/Ghost stories, and it has been long since last movie of the same kind, so it was a MUST on my watch-list. I was definitely attracted by the trailer. This is the most seriously produced Chinese Vampire story I have ever seen. I like how they put Vampire and Ghost together. It also grabs the sense how its like when they are hunting you down. The movie has a very nice visual; the shots are beautiful. However, the plot is kind of slow and unclear. It takes about 30 minutes to lineup the story, and the beautiful shots kind of slow it down. Once it gets to the transforming/fighting part, it is all good.A few things not making sense. Why the father/private tutor suddenly wanted to raped one of the twins while the environment was not secured? Why all the sudden Chin Siu-Hou became a hero like character and fight? What does Cheap Chan's plate do indeed after it was filled with blood?
